Seolhyun, once a prominent member of the K-pop group AOA, has affirmed her current commitment to her acting career, expressing no interest in returning to idol activities for the time being.
Seolhyun debuted as both an idol with AOA and an actress in the KBS drama My Daughter Seoyoung in 2012. She has since built a reputation as a successful transition from idol to actress, with a career spanning over a decade.
Since 2019, following the release of AOA’s 6th mini album New Moon, Seolhyun has paused her idol activities. In a recent interview with Newsis, she shared her current career focus.
AOA’s Hiatus and Seolhyun’s Shift to Acting
Seolhyun’s activities as an idol came to a halt in 2019, following the release of AOA’s sixth mini-album, New Moon. Since then, fans have wondered if she would ever return to idol promotions.
In a recent interview with Newsis, Seolhyun opened up about her career priorities, admitting that, for now, she is fully focused on acting.
“I’m becoming more and more sincere about acting. I can’t say I’ll never return to being an idol, but for now, I plan to focus on acting.” — Seolhyun
Seolhyun emphasized the importance of consistency in her acting career, explaining that taking long breaks could hinder her ability to stay connected to her craft.
“After finishing a project, I feel like I understand acting a little better. But if I take a break, that feeling fades. So I think it’s important to keep acting consistently without taking long breaks.” — Seolhyun
Balancing Composure and Growth in Her 30s
Looking ahead to her 30s, Seolhyun expressed her desire to find composure and further enhance her acting skills. Reflecting on the differences between her experiences as an idol and an actress, she noted that the transition initially left her feeling uneasy but ultimately taught her valuable lessons about managing uncertainties.
“When I was active as an idol, I could take the lead in my work. I could be involved in structuring the album, creating it, and deciding its release timing. But as an actress, I can’t work unless I’m chosen. I have to be called upon to take a role, and I need to adjust to the filming schedule. At first, all of this made me feel uneasy. But over time, I’ve learned how to manage my fears and how to truly rest.” — Seolhyun
Seolhyun’s optimistic outlook on her acting career is evident as she expressed confidence in her ability to build on the success she’s experienced this year.
“Since I had a good year this year, I think I can have another good year next year, too!” — Seolhyun
