Apple TV+’s critically acclaimed series Severance has a concrete plan for its next season. The widely reported production schedule indicates an eight-month filming period is set to begin in April 2026, paving the way for the show’s return to streaming in 2027.
Recent industry reports have provided the clearest picture yet for fans waiting on news about the show’s future. The scripts are finished, the production calendar is taking shape, and the creative team is promising another season full of surprises.
Production Schedule and Filming Details
According to multiple reports citing the industry publication Production Weekly, the physical production of Severance Season 3 is scheduled to run from April through December 2026. This planned eight-month filming window is consistent with the lengthy shoots for the previous seasons.
Following the completion of filming, the series will enter an extensive post-production phase. This critical stage, which includes editing, visual effects, sound design, and music, is expected to take an additional six to nine months. This detailed timeline suggests that new episodes will be ready for release on Apple TV+ by summer or fall of 2027. A more specific premiere date within that window, such as June or September, has been suggested but remains unconfirmed by Apple.
While this still means a significant wait for viewers, it points to a shorter gap than the one between Season 1 and Season 2. Season 1 premiered in February 2022, and Season 2 arrived in January 2025โa span of nearly three years that was impacted by industry-wide strikes. With those obstacles cleared, the path to Season 3 appears more direct.
What the Show’s Creator Says About Season 3
Speaking at the 2026 Critics Choice Awards in early January, series creator Dan Erickson shared his excitement for the new season’s scripts. He compared the writing process to the pivotal moments in Season 2 that left audiences stunned.
“I can tell you that the feeling I had when we wrote the end of Season 2โฆ I’ve had that feeling more writing Season 3 than in any previous season,” Erickson told Us Weekly. “I think there are going to be a ton of moments that surprise people and rile people up. And I think it’s gonna be weird and funny and all of the things that hopefully people continue to love about the show.”
Erickson also noted that the story will continue to expand beyond Adam Scott’s Mark Scout. Season 2 began exploring the “outie” lives of more characters at Lumon Industries, and that trend is set to continue.

One notable change for the upcoming season is behind the camera. Ben Stiller, who served as an executive producer and directed 11 of the show’s first 19 episodes, confirmed he will not direct any episodes in Season 3. He remains deeply involved as an executive producer, having spent the last eight months working full-time on Season 3’s development. Stiller expressed full confidence in the show’s existing directorial team, which includes talents like cinematographer-turned-director Jessica Lee Gagnรฉ.
The core cast, including Adam Scott, Britt Lower, Patricia Arquette, Tramell Tillman, Dichen Lachman, and Zach Cherry, is expected to return. The new season will immediately follow the intense cliffhanger of the Season 2 finale, which saw Mark’s “innie” choose to run back into the Lumon building with Helly, leaving his wife Gemma on the other side of the door as alarm lights flashed.
The series continues to be a major success for Apple TV+. Severance ranked fifth on the platform’s Global Top 10 TV Shows list as of January 8, 2026. Its second season was a critical darling, earning a 94% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and becoming the most-nominated series at the 77th Primetime Emmy Awards.
