CBS has confirmed that Sheriff Country, the popular new drama spun off from Fire Country, will return for a second season. The network announced the renewal on December 3, 2025, after the show aired just six episodes. This early decision, placing the show on CBSโ€™s schedule for the 2026-2027 season, was made due to its strong ratings. The series, starring Morena Baccarin, has become the second most-watched new network show this season.

CBS Entertainment president Amy Reisenbach praised the show’s performance and storytelling. In a statement, she said the renewal shows the strength of the show’s creative team and its connection with viewers.

โ€œTwo new shows on Friday night have become instant hits, with audiences quickly embracing Boston Blue and Sheriff Country across broadcast and streaming. These early renewals reflect the power of character-driven storytelling, compelling narratives and the exceptional talent on both sides of the camera,โ€ said Reisenbach.

Sheriff Country Season 2 Renewal Details and Ratings Success

The renewal for Sheriff Country Season 2 came unusually early in the showโ€™s first season. CBS made the announcement before the full first season of 20 episodes had even finished airing. This quick decision highlights the network’s confidence in the series.

A major reason for the renewal is the show’s strong viewership. According to Nielsen data that tracks viewers across television and streaming platforms over seven days, Sheriff Country is averaging 7.6 million viewers per episode. The show consistently wins its 8 p.m. Friday time slot. In fact, its ratings represent a 33% increase in average audience compared to the program that aired in the same slot last season.

Sheriff Country’s Story, Cast, and Connection to Fire Country

Sheriff Country is set in the fictional Northern California town of Edgewater and follows Sheriff Mickey Fox, played by Morena Baccarin. As sheriff, Mickey investigates local crimes while dealing with complicated personal relationships. Her father, Wes Fox (W. Earl Brown), is an ex-convict with a strained relationship with his daughter. The show also involves a complicated romantic situation involving Mickey, her ex-husband Travis Fraley (Christopher Gorham), a deputy named Cassidy Campbell (Michele Weaver), and Mickey’s second-in-command, Nathan Boone (Matt Lauria).

The series is a direct spin-off of the hit drama Fire Country, which focuses on prison inmate firefighters. Mickey Fox was first introduced in an episode of Fire Country Season 2 titled “Alert the Sheriff”, which aired in April 2024. In that episode, Mickey was revealed to be the estranged stepsister of Fire Country character Sharon Leone (Diane Farr). The shared setting of Edgewater allows for characters from Fire Country, including its star and co-creator Max Thieriot, to appear in Sheriff Country.

When to Watch Sheriff Country Season 1 and Season 2 Schedule

The first season of Sheriff Country is currently airing on CBS. New episodes air on Friday nights at 8 p.m. ET/PT. The show premiered on October 17, 2025. Following the airing of its ninth episode on December 19, 2025, the show will take a break. It is scheduled to return with new episodes from its first season on February 27, 2026.

Production for the newly ordered Season 2 is expected to begin in early 2026. CBS has confirmed that Season 2 of Sheriff Country will air during the 2026-2027 television season. While the exact premiere date for the second season has not been announced, it is expected to debut in late 2026.

Sheriff Country Season 2 Cast and Potential New Characters

The core cast of Sheriff Country is expected to return for the second season. This includes:

  • W. Earl Brown as Wes Fox, Mickey’s father
