After the end of her long-term spiritual marriage to Kody Brown, Meri Brown is embarking on a new journey of self-discovery, one solo trip at a time. The Sister Wives star recently opened up about her first experience traveling alone, revealing it was a significant step that challenged deep-seated beliefs from her past.
Breaking Free From the Past
In a recent episode of Sister Wives Season 20, Meri recalled her very first solo trip, which happened while she was still living in Las Vegas. She shared that the concept of traveling by herself was something she never initially believed was acceptable. “I never thought it was okay. I don’t know if it’s religious culture or family culture, honestly,” Meri reflected. That first trip was short; she stayed only one night before returning home, describing the experience as “very uncomfortable.”
Her breakthrough came with the encouragement of her best friend, Jenn. Upon learning that Meri had never been anywhere by herself, Jenn gave her a powerful push. “Just go do something for you. Just for you. Just go do something,” Jenn told her. This simple advice sparked a transformation, setting Meri on a path toward independence and empowerment.
A Newfound Sense of Freedom
Meri’s personal journey has accelerated since her split from Kody Brown was finalized in January 2023. She has spoken openly about the positive changes in her life since the separation. “It was really interesting, because after we made the decision to split, I feel free,” Meri shared in a recent preview. She clarified, “Not in a way that I felt like I was being forced to stay, and I didn’t feel stuck, necessarily, but it’s interesting how free I feel.”
This feeling of liberation is most evident in her growing confidence to explore the world on her own terms. What began as an uncomfortable one-night trip has blossomed into a series of adventures, showing her personal growth and increasing self-reliance.
An Emotional Solo Adventure Abroad
Meri’s solo travels recently reached a new high with an emotional, bucket-list trip to England. In a preview for an upcoming episode, the TLC star documented her journey through selfie videos, capturing moments of pure joy and awe. “I’m in London!” Meri exclaimed in one clip. “I’m standing in front of the Buckingham Palace. Oh my gosh. I have never been to London before. This is seriously kind of a defining moment. The world is my oyster.”
The most powerful moment of her trip came during a visit to Stonehenge. Overwhelmed with emotion, Meri was brought to tears. “I literally cannot believe I’m here,” she admitted. “Gosh. This is something that I have wanted to do for probably the majority of my life, so actually being here right now is it’s kind of blowing my mind.” She described being “truly in awe” of the ancient site, which had fascinated her for years after she once stayed up late watching a documentary about it.
Embracing a Solo Lifestyle
Meri’s comfort with solo travel is now clearly reflected in her personal life. In a social media post from spring 2024, she enthusiastically shared details of a solo trip to Boston she had taken, noting that “solo trips aren’t a foreign concept to me. It’s something I do well.” During this trip, she spent three days exploring the city, walking over 55,000 steps, visiting historical sites like the Bunker Hill Monument, and simply enjoying her own company. She wrote that she saw the city “through the eyes of hope, of optimism, of change,” a stark contrast to her earlier apprehensions.
Life After the Polygamous Family
Meri’s transformational travel experiences occur against the backdrop of her changed family dynamics. Kody Brown is now only in a relationship with his legal wife, Robyn Brown. Meri has described her current relationship with Kody as “cordial,” noting that while they are kind to one another, they do not seek each other out for calls or texts.
Her relationships with her former sister wives have also faded. Meri told Us Weekly in December 2024 that her friendship with Christine Brown is now “nonexistent,” wishing her well but acknowledging their “paths just don’t align right now.” She described a similarly distant but “cordial” and “decent” relationship with Janelle Brown, confirming they “talk on occasion.”
