After years as the small green mystery lounging in the break room, Glep from Smiling Friends finally gets an episode all about him. Titled “The Glep Ep,” this special installment aired on November 30, 2025, as the third season finale. For the first time, the show directly tackles the question everyone has asked: what is Glep’s actual job at the company, and why is he there?

Glep’s Official Role at Smiling Friends

For most of the series, Glep’s role has been a complete mystery. He is officially a co-founder and employee of Smiling Friends Inc., but his daily activities usually involve napping on a beanbag, watching videos on a tablet, or just hanging around the office. He communicates in a fast-paced gibberish language called Wingon, which the rest of the staff somehow understands.

This ambiguity finally comes to a head in “The Glep Ep.” During the company’s Christmas performance reviews, Mr. Boss realizes he cannot name a single thing Glep does for the business. When confronted, Glep becomes angry, breaks his tablet, and storms out, leading Mr. Boss to fire him.

“What do you do at this company? Can you name one thing?” Mr. Boss asks Glep in the episode preview, summing up the central mystery.

The Surprising Truth Revealed in “The Glep Ep”

The episode reveals that Glep’s importance to Smiling Friends is far greater than his lazy demeanor suggests. After getting fired and returning to his mansion, Glep reflects on his long, strange life. Flashbacks show he is over 1,600 years old and has inadvertently influenced major historical events, including the fall of the Roman Empire and the spread of the Black Plague.

The most important revelation comes in a flashback to 1992. Glep encounters a homeless and deeply depressed Mr. Boss, who is on the verge of ending his life after a stock market crash. To cheer him up, Glep does a silly little dance.

This spontaneous act makes Mr. Boss smile and gives him a new purpose. He immediately decides to start a business dedicated to making others smile, shaking Glep’s hand to seal the partnership. Glep is not just an employee; he is the original co-founder whose simple act of kindness inspired the entire company.

Why the Company Can’t Function Without Glep

The episode demonstrates that Smiling Friends fundamentally does not work without Glep. Shortly after he leaves, the office descends into absolute chaos. Pim is taped to the ceiling, Allan is screaming and running in circles, and a dried-up Charlie is covered in rats. Mr. Boss, injured and realizing his mistake, apologizes and begs Glep to return.

This proves that Glep’s true “job” is simply being present. His laid-back nature and ancient, weird energy are somehow essential to the company’s balance. As a co-founder, he has earned the right to spend his days however he chooses. The episode ends with Glep back in his familiar spot, having finally found a place where he belongs.
