Sonakshi Sinha’s fans are in for a double dose of celebration! While the actress is gearing up for her rumoured wedding with beau Zaheer Iqbal, her upcoming film Kakuda has finally locked in an OTT release date. The spooky comedy, also featuring Riteish Deshmukh and Saqib Saleem, will be skipping theatres and premiering directly on Zee5 on July 12, 2024.
Direct OTT Release for Kakuda
Directed by Aditya Sarpotdar, whose recent horror-comedy Munjya was a box office success, Kakuda will bypass theatrical release and head straight to streaming. The announcement came from the director himself, who shared the film’s poster featuring the lead cast on his Instagram handle.

“Purushon Ke Hit Mein Jaari [Released for the benefit of men],” wrote Sarpotdar in the caption, announcing the release date. “#Kakuda aa raha hai ’12 July’ ko, toh ghar pe rahein aur theek 7:15 baje, darwaza khula rakhna naa bhoolein [So stay home on July 12th and remember to keep the door open at exactly 7:15 PM].”
A Spooky Comedy Set in a Village with a Strange Ritual
Produced by RSVP Movies, Kakuda is a unique blend of chills and humour. The story revolves around the mysterious village of Ratodi, nestled in Mathura district, Uttar Pradesh. An ancient curse hangs over Ratodi, affecting every household. Each house has two doors: a regular sized one and a slightly smaller one. As per the bizarre tradition, the smaller door needs to be opened every Tuesday at precisely 7:15 PM.
What is Kakuda’s Curse and How Will They Break Free?
Failure to comply with this ritual results in dire consequences for the men of the house, who face the wrath of the enigmatic Kakuda. But who exactly is Kakuda? Why does the curse target only men? And most importantly, how can the villagers break free from this strange tradition? These questions will hopefully be answered when Kakuda premieres on Zee5 on July 12th.
A Long-Awaited Release After Almost Three Years
For those following the project, Ronnie Screwvala, the film’s producer, had first announced Kakuda in July 2021. Filming took place across various locations in Gujarat and wrapped up in September 2021. With a wait of nearly three years, fans are thrilled to finally have a confirmed release date for the spooky comedy.
