Bollywood actress Sonakshi Sinha has spoken out in support of students protesting in Jharkhand over alleged cheating and problems in government recruitment exams. The students have been holding protests for days, asking for a fair investigation into the JPSC and JSSC exams. Sonakshi used her social media to share her feelings about the situation.
The actor posted a video on her Instagram Stories that showed what students are going through in Jharkhand. In her message, she wrote, “It’s so disheartening to see students of our country go through this… when will it stop???”. She also shared another video where a student talked about why Jharkhand’s problems often do not get the same attention as other states.
Students Protest at Jaipal Singh Munda Stadium
The protests started on July 29, 2026, when hundreds of students gathered at Jaipal Singh Munda Stadium in Ranchi. They have been sitting there without stopping, demanding action against problems in the 14th JPSC Combined Preliminary Test held on April 19 and other exams like the JSSC-CGL. The protest has now gone on for several days and is getting bigger.
Students say the Jharkhand government is not doing enough to find the truth. They do not trust the CID investigation because they say the same agency previously found that 135 out of 150 questions were leaked in another exam. One student from Hazaribag told PTI that they have completely lost faith in the CID probe.
What Students Are Demanding
The students have put forward several clear demands:
- A probe by the CBI and Enforcement Directorate (ED) into the exam problems
- Cancellation of the 14th JPSC Preliminary Test
- A fifth option called “not attempted” on OMR sheets
- Action against the exam agency TDPL, which they say was previously blacklisted
One student from Giridih district said, “The careers of thousands of students and aspirants are at stake due to corruption in both agencies. Most of us come from farmers’ families. We only want fair opportunities based on merit”. Another tribal student from Ranchi said protesters want strict punishment for those involved and cancellation of the JPSC exam.
What Started the Protests
The protest began after an OMR answer sheet from the JPSC preliminary exam went viral on social media. The sheet showed that a candidate who got only 48 out of 100 questions correct was still included in the final selection list. People became even more angry when a female candidate who scored 299 out of 300 in the PGT exam was not selected. This exposed serious problems in how the exams are conducted and how results are decided.
Sonakshi Sinha’s History of Supporting Students
This is not the first time Sonakshi Sinha has spoken up for students. She earlier supported protests over the NEET-UG exam paper leaks. She also backed the CJP (Cockroach Janta Party) protests at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar. During that time, she posted videos supporting activist Sonam Wangchuk, who went on a hunger strike. She also shared photos of injured students after police action on July 20, 2026.
Sonakshi had written at that time, “We all know that the future of the country is in the hands of its youth… I’ve never made a public statement like this before, but I can’t stay silent any longer”.
Other Celebrities Join the Support
Other actors have also come out in support of the Jharkhand students. Rupali Ganguly, known for her role in Anupamaa, posted on social media asking the government to listen to the students. She wrote, “The students of Jharkhand are standing firm in the pouring rain, peacefully demanding justice. Their determination deserves respect, not silence. The government must listen, ensure accountability, and address their concerns”. She added, “They are the future of the state and the nation. May justice prevail soon”.
Government Response
Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren said the government is paying attention to the students’ concerns. He told reporters that the government would address the students’ grievances and that justice would be delivered after the investigation finishes. He said they are waiting for the investigation team’s findings and will share the results with the students and the people of the state.
The government has also set up a high-level committee led by Minister Sudivya Kumar to talk to the students and submit a report within one to three months. Under pressure, the JPSC Chairman has resigned, and the JPSC Main exams have been postponed.

Students Plan to March to the Assembly
The students have warned that if the government does not address their concerns, they will march to the Jharkhand Assembly and stage a protest there in the coming days. They have already held a torchlight procession through Ranchi to Albert Ekka Chowk. A march to gherao the Jharkhand Assembly is planned for August 7, 2026.
Student leader Devendra Nath Mahto is leading the protest and has started an indefinite hunger strike. He is demanding the cancellation of the 14th JPSC examination. The protesters say they are keeping their movement non-political, non-religious, and non-casteist to make sure their message stays focused only on merit and transparency in exams.
The students have also refused to let political figures take over their movement, wanting to keep the focus on their demands for fairness and justice.
