The final battle for Hawkins is getting a big-screen sendoff. For the first time ever, the series finale of Stranger Things is heading to movie theaters for a special limited event. Tickets for these exclusive fan screenings in the U.S. and Canada are available starting today, December 2, 2025. This gives fans a unique chance to experience the two-hour conclusion alongside other viewers, marking the end of a nearly decade-long story.

The Finale Release Schedule and Ticket Details

The finale episode, officially titled “The Rightside Up,” will debut simultaneously in theaters and on Netflix on December 31, 2025. The first theatrical screenings begin at 5:00 p.m. Pacific Time (8:00 p.m. Eastern Time), which is the exact moment it becomes available for streaming at home.

This is a very limited engagement. The episode will only play in theaters for about 36 hours, from the evening of December 31 through January 1, 2026. Screenings will be held in over 350 select theaters across the United States and Canada. Due to high demand and the short run, securing tickets early is strongly recommended.

To get tickets, U.S. fans can check major theater chains and online platforms. Regal Cinemas and Megaplex Theatres are participating, and tickets are also available through services like Fandango, Atom Tickets, and Ticketmaster. In Canada, tickets are being sold through Cineplex. Fans outside North America will be able to watch the finale exclusively on Netflix at the same global release time.

Why the Show is Ending With a Theatrical Event

Bringing the finale to theaters fulfills a long-standing wish for the show’s creators, Matt and Ross Duffer. They have often spoken about their desire to give the story a cinematic conclusion. In a statement, they shared their excitement about fans experiencing it together.

“Weโ€™re beyond excited that fans will have the chance to experience the final episode of Stranger Things in theaters โ€” itโ€™s something weโ€™ve dreamed about for yearsโ€ฆ Getting to see it on the big screen, with incredible sound, picture, and a room full of fans, feels like the perfect โ€” dare we say bitchinโ€™ โ€” way to celebrate the end of this adventure.”

The decision is also a notable shift for Netflix, which has traditionally kept its major releases on its streaming platform. The scale of this finale, described as the longest episode in the show’s history at “a little over two hours,” made a strong case for the special treatment. The Duffer brothers confirmed that Netflix approached them about premiering the finale separately from the rest of the season, which opened the door for the theatrical proposal.

What to Know Before the Finale Arrives

The finale is the last piece of a staggered holiday release for the fifth and final season. Volume 1 of Season 5, containing the first four episodes, became available on November 26, 2025. Volume 2, which includes episodes five through seven, is scheduled to debut on Christmas Day, December 25. This sets the stage for the epic conclusion on New Year’s Eve.

The official synopsis for the season sets a high-stakes scene: “The fall of 1987. Hawkins is scarredโ€ฆ and our heroes are united by a single goal: find and kill Vecnaโ€ฆ The final battle is looming โ€” and with it, a darkness more powerful and more deadly than anything theyโ€™ve faced before”. The full original cast returns for this last adventure, including Winona Ryder, David Harbour, Millie Bobby Brown, Finn Wolfhard, and Gaten Matarazzo, alongside new addition Linda Hamilton.
