A new trailer for the final season of Stranger Things shows that the kids are not fighting alone. Netflix has released a special reel highlighting the “protectors of our party,” putting the spotlight on the adults who have been defending Hawkins from the start. The video is a nostalgic look at Joyce Byers, Jim Hopper, Karen Wheeler, and Murray Bauman, teasing their crucial roles in the last battle against the Upside Down.
The Protectors Step Into the Light
The newly released reel focuses on four key adult characters, showing them as they appeared in Season 1 alongside their current selves. The side-by-side comparison is a powerful reminder of how far these characters have come since the show began. The trailer confirms that these parents and guardians will be on the front lines when the final fight for Hawkins begins.
Joyce Byers and Jim Hopper have been central figures in the battle against the Upside Down since the disappearance of Joyce’s son, Will, in the first season. Karen Wheeler, mother to Mike and Nancy, has become increasingly aware of the dangers lurking in her town. Murray Bauman, the insightful private investigator, has used his skills to help the group understand their supernatural enemy.
A Final Stand Against Vecna
The official plot for Season 5 sets the stage for an all-out war. The story picks up in the fall of 1987. The town of Hawkins is scarred by the giant rifts opened at the end of Season 4 and is now under a strict military quarantine. The core group of heroes is united by a single mission: to find and kill Vecna. However, the villain has vanished, and his plans are unknown.
The government has intensified its hunt for Eleven, forcing her back into hiding. As the anniversary of Will Byers’ original disappearance approaches, a sense of dread returns to Hawkins. The final battle is coming, and the heroes will need the “full party” to stand together one last time.
The new footage shows that the adult protectors will be deeply involved in this conflict. We see Jim Hopper standing firmly beside his adopted daughter, Eleven, as she prepares to face the darkness. He tells her, "Let's end this kid." Joyce is shown as a first line of defense against a Demogorgon. In another scene, Karen Wheeler is seen protectively holding a little girl, both holding their breath to hide from a creature of the Upside Down. Murray Bauman will also return, offering his unique investigative skills to the fight.
The End of an Era for Hawkins
Stranger Things Season 5 will bring the story to a close nearly a decade after the show first premiered. The final season will be released in three volumes on November 26, 2025, Christmas Day, and New Year’s Eve. For the most dedicated fans, the series finale will also be shown in select theaters across the US and Canada on December 31, 2025, and January 1, 2026.
The show’s creators, the Duffer Brothers, have said that getting to see the finale on the big screen with a room full of fans “feels like the perfect way to celebrate the end of this adventure.”
The young cast, who were mostly children when the show began, have now grown up. Reflecting on the journey, Winona Ryder (Joyce Byers) said, "I got to watch these kids grow up, which is the biggest gift that this show has given me." Gaten Matarazzo, who plays Dustin Henderson, noted that despite the show’s increasing scale, “it still feels like the same group of nerds from the first season.”
The Full Party Assembles
The final season will see the return of all the main heroes, including Eleven, Mike, Will, Dustin, Lucas, Max, Nancy, Jonathan, Steve, and Robin. They will be joined by new faces, including Linda Hamilton in a role described as Dr. Kay.
The first teaser trailer also gave fans emotional glimpses of the story to come. It shows Dustin visiting the grave of his friend, Eddie Munson. Lucas remains by Max’s side as she lies in a hospital bed following her confrontation with Vecna. Jonathan Byers tells Nancy Wheeler, "After all we've been through. This thing. It ties us together. Forever."
With the fate of Hawkins and the world at stake, the final season promises to be an epic conclusion. As the tagline says, the final battle is looming, and to end this nightmare, they will need everyone.
