The stars of the new Netflix series Genie Make a Wish have shared behind-the-scenes stories from the set, including a funny confession from Bae Suzy about her unique acting challenge. At a press conference for the show, Suzy revealed she often felt bad for her co-star Kim Woo-bin due to her character’s emotionless personality.

The press event was held on September 29, 2025, in Seoul. The cast, including Kim Woo-bin, Bae Suzy, Ahn Eun-jin, Noh Sang-hyun, Ko Kyu-pil, and Lee Joo-young, all attended to talk about the new fantasy romantic comedy.

Suzy’s Character and Her On-Screen Guilt

Suzy plays the role of Ka-young, a woman born without emotions who is diagnosed as a psychopath. She described the challenges of playing a character who shows no reaction, especially when acting opposite Kim Woo-bin.

“I always felt guilty toward Woo-bin,” Suzy shared at the press conference. “When acting, you’re supposed to respond and react to your partner, but Ka-young processes everything in her own way, so she doesn’t nod or add any interjections.”

She explained that there were many scenes where Kim Woo-bin had to carry the conversation entirely on his own. “There were many scenes where he had to perform a one-man show,” she said. Suzy also noted that as the story progresses, her character’s emotions slowly develop, promising a change in the dynamic.

A Reunion After Nine Years

“Genie, Make a Wish” marks the highly anticipated reunion of Kim Woo-bin and Bae Suzy, who last starred together in the 2016 drama Uncontrollably Fond. When asked about working together again, Suzy had positive things to say.

“I didn’t realize how much time had passed, but meeting Woo-bin in a completely new project and with new characters made it so enjoyable that I barely remembered the lingering feelings from back then. It was great to work together again,” Suzy remarked.

She also complimented their improved chemistry, saying, “I felt our chemistry was even better than before. Even though my character lacks emotions, since it’s a romantic comedy, there needed to be a back-and-forth. That part felt smooth and comfortable. He was still very considerate, so filming was a happy experience.”

What Is ‘Genie, Make a Wish’ About?

The series, written by famed screenwriter Kim Eun-sook, tells the story of a genie named Genie, played by Kim Woo-bin, who wakes up from a thousand-year sleep inside a lamp. He is found by Ka-young, played by Suzy, and offers to grant her three wishes.

However, there’s a twist. The genie is actually Iblis, better known as Satan, and his goal is to prove that humans are corruptible. The situation becomes complicated when he tries to tempt Ka-young, who has no emotions and therefore very few desires. This unique setup creates a fun and unpredictable romantic comedy.

The Supporting Cast and Their Roles

The show features a strong supporting cast that brings the story to life. Ahn Eun-jin plays the mysterious Mi-joo, a woman who comes to the fictional Cheongpung Village. Noh Sang-hyun takes on the role of Soo-hyun, who is both a wealthy building owner and an angel, often clashing with Genie.

Ko Kyu-pil plays Sayyid, Genie’s assistant whose true form is a black jaguar. Lee Zoo-young plays Min-ji, who is the only friend of Suzy’s character, Ka-young.

When to Watch

Fans won’t have to wait long to see this unique romance unfold. “Genie, Make a Wish” is scheduled to premiere on October 3, 2025, on Netflix worldwide.
