The wait for Sweet Magnolias fans is almost over. Season 5 arrives on Netflix this Thursday, June 11, 2026. The new season brings major changes for the beloved trio from Serenity, South Carolina. Maddie Townsend leaves for a new job in New York City, while the show says goodbye to a familiar face as Carson Rowland exits his role as Ty Townsend.

All 10 episodes of Sweet Magnolias Season 5 will be available to stream on Netflix starting June 11, 2026. Viewers in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, India, and other regions can watch the entire season at once.
Carson Rowland Leaves Sweet Magnolias, Ty Will Be Missing
Carson Rowland, who has played Ty Townsend since the first season, will not return for Season 5. Showrunner Sheryl J. Anderson confirmed to Us Weekly that it was Rowland’s own choice to leave the Netflix series.
Anneliese Judge, who plays Ty’s love interest Annie, said Rowland left because “some other opportunities” came up for the actor. Rowland had a smaller role in Season 4, and now he is leaving the show entirely.
The timing of his exit is tricky for fans. At the end of Season 4, Ty and Annie finally admitted they have feelings for each other. But with Ty gone, their romance will face serious problems. Anderson said the show’s writers will address why Ty is not around in the Season 5 storylines.
Maddie Takes a Publishing Job in New York
Season 4 ended with Maddie Townsend (played by JoAnna Garcia Swisher) accepting a publishing job in New York City. Season 5 picks up right from that moment. Maddie tries to balance her new career with her marriage to Cal (played by Justin Bruening) and her life in Serenity.
In the Season 5 trailer, Maddie talks about how her friends Helen and Dana Sue help her “balance the hurt of being away from all the people that I love.” The season will show Maddie chasing her dreams while missing her family and friends back home.
New Cast Members Joining Season 5
Several new faces will appear in Sweet Magnolias Season 5. Jamie-Lynn Sigler, known for playing Meadow Soprano on The Sopranos, joins as Nell Winters. Nell is a well-known writer who becomes friends with Maddie in New York.

Where Each Main Character Stands Before Season 5
Maddie and Cal got married in a surprise Halloween wedding in Season 4. Now Maddie’s New York job will test their new marriage. Bill Townsend (Chris Klein) died in Season 4 from a heart attack. His death continues to affect the Townsend family in Season 5.
Helen and Erik finally got engaged at the end of Season 4 after years of waiting. Fans have wanted to see them together since early seasons. Season 5 may show them planning their wedding.
Dana Sue and Ronnie repaired their marriage after past problems. Dana Sue now wants to start her own teaching kitchen, which could change her future plans.
Isaac was revealed to be gay in Season 4, which put to rest any awkward questions about his friendship with Noreen (who shares a child with Isaac’s biological father Bill). Isaac started a relationship with Michael (Kyle Findley) at the end of Season 4.

The show’s main theme for Season 5 is “chasing dreams.” Showrunner Sheryl J. Anderson told Netflix’s Tudum that the writers “wanted to give everybody that thrilling New York adventure.” The new episodes will show what happens when the characters have to stretch beyond their small town.
With Carson Rowland leaving, fans will not see Ty on screen. But the show will explain his absence through the story. Anderson has promised that the writers will address Ty being gone.
