JoAnna Garcia Swisher, who plays Maddie, addressed fan reactions to her character’s potential move in interviews leading up to the new season. Despite the New York focus, Swisher hinted that significant drama will still unfold back in Serenity. “But then I realized the real drama this season is right back in Serenity. JoAnna Garcia Swisher promised that Season 5 would bring plenty of romance, telling Us Weekly in August 2025 that the new season has the “most romance” of any season so far. She described it as a “roller coaster” that will give fans “those butterflies again”. She also confirmed that “no one dies” in Season 5, a notable detail following the death of Maddie’s ex-husband Bill in Season 4.
The season will consist of 10 episodes, consistent with previous seasons of the series.
