The first season of AMC’s newest supernatural series, Talamasca: The Secret Order, has concluded, leaving fans with stunning reveals and many questions. The show, a new part of the network’s Anne Rice Immortal Universe, follows a secret society that monitors supernatural beings. While the season finale solved some mysteries, it ended on several cliffhangers, and AMC has not yet announced if the show will return for a second season.

What Is Talamasca: The Secret Order About?

Talamasca: The Secret Order introduces viewers to a clandestine organization known as the Talamasca. Their mission is to watch over the world’s immortal populationโ€”vampires, witches, ghosts, and demonsโ€”and step in only when these beings threaten humans. The series is an original story created for television, expanding a part of Anne Rice’s universe that she wrote about but never gave its own dedicated book series.

The story centers on Guy Anatole, a law school graduate with telekinetic abilities and a troubled past. After a failed job interview, he is recruited by Helen, the director of the Talamasca’s New York headquarters. She reveals that the organization has been watching him his whole life, even paying for his education. Reluctantly, Guy is drawn into this hidden world to uncover the truth about his family and his own powers. The show also stars William Fichtner as the enigmatic vampire Jasper and Cรฉline Buckens as Doris, a key figure with her own deep secrets.

Season 1 Finale Delivered Shocking Revelations

The six-episode first season built up to a finale filled with major twists that changed everything viewers thought they knew. The central mystery of the season was the “752,” a highly sought-after asset that both the Talamasca and the rogue vampires were desperate to find.

In the final episode, it was revealed that the 752 is not an object, but a personโ€”Doris. She was transformed by the Talamasca into a living archive, using her supernatural memory to store the organization’s entire history. To preserve this knowledge forever, she was later turned into a vampire. This twist recontextualized her entire relationship with Guy and the Talamasca.

Another massive reveal was that Doris is actually Emma, the long-lost twin sister of Helen. They were separated as children by the Talamasca due to their unique gifts. The emotional finale saw the sisters reunite briefly before Helen turned herself in to the police to allow Guy and Doris to escape. The season ended with Guy and Doris on the run, searching for Guy’s mother, who may still be alive, while being watched by an unknown threat.

Critics and Fans Had Mixed Reactions

The reception to the show’s first season has been divided. On review aggregator sites, it holds a 64% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a 6.5 out of 10 on IMDb.

Some critics found the show to be a worthy expansion of the Immortal Universe. One review called it a “paranoia-laced spy thriller” that successfully builds on Anne Rice’s lore, praising Elizabeth McGovern’s performance as “sensational”. The show was commended for its intriguing premise and the compelling dynamic between Guy and Doris.

However, a common criticism among reviewers and audiences was the show’s slow pace. Some viewers felt that the story took too long to develop, with one IMDb reviewer noting, “It moves sooooo slow. Like a half frozen salamander.” Others found the main character, Guy, difficult to connect with, citing his “charmless” demeanor. Some fans of Anne Rice’s books expressed disappointment that the show did not deeper explore the rich history of the Talamasca organization as presented in the novels.

Is There Going to Be a Season 2?

As of late November 2025, AMC has not yet renewed Talamasca: The Secret Order for a second season. The network has not provided any official update on the show’s future.

However, the show’s creators and cast are hopeful. Executive producer John Lee Hancock has spoken about his desire to continue the story, stating, “We’ve got lots of ideas. We really hope that we get to continue telling the story. Those two characters, Guy and Doris, and actors, are just so wonderful together”.

Star Nicholas Denton also shared his hopes for more episodes, explaining that the first season was about setting up the world and characters. “You want to set them free, let ’em go nuts on the world. And that’s what I’m hoping for,” he said, adding that there is “a lot to unpack” between Guy and Doris in a potential second season.

The Season 1 finale deliberately set up multiple storylines for a continuation, including the search for Guy’s mother, the corruption within the Talamasca, and the new dynamic between Helen and Detective Ridge. For now, fans will have to wait for an official announcement from AMC. The first season is currently streaming on AMC+ and is scheduled to arrive on Netflix in 2026.

“The first seasonโ€™s really interesting because youโ€™ve got to start. Youโ€™re setting up a new world, new lore, new characters, youโ€™re building them up, and you want to set them free,” said Nicholas Denton, who plays Guy Anatole.
