A new television series based on the novel “The Accomplice” is in the works at Peacock. The project brings together two major forces in entertainment: award-winning actress Taraji P. Henson and producer and author Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson. Henson will both star in and help produce the crime drama, which is adapted from the book Jackson co-wrote and published in 2024.
The series will feature Henson as Nia Adams, a determined Texas Ranger who finds herself at the center of a dangerous conspiracy. The show is in development with Universal Content Productions (UCP).
The Story Behind ‘The Accomplice’
The plot of “The Accomplice” centers on Henson’s character, Nia Adams, a fearless Texas Ranger. Her mission is to track down a master thief named Desmond Bell. Bell’s latest target is one of the wealthiest and most powerful families in America.
However, the straightforward investigation quickly becomes more complicated. As Ranger Adams closes in on the thief, she uncovers a dangerous conspiracy. The secrets she discovers are so explosive that they force her into an impossible position. She must choose between exposing the truth to the public and protecting the very justice system she has dedicated her life to serving.
The novel provides more background on the characters. Desmond Bell is not just any thief; he is a Vietnam veteran who specializes in stealing secrets from the rich and powerful and then blackmailing them for millions. Nia Adams is described as a New York-born, Texas-bred officer who achieved her dream of becoming a Texas Ranger, a role where she is already navigating the complexities of being the first Black woman in that position.
The People Making the Show
The new series is a collaboration between two prolific producers. Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson will executive produce the adaptation through his G-Unit Films and Television company. Jackson is well-known for building the expansive “Power” universe on Starz, which includes multiple spinoffs. He has several other television projects in development, including the British boxing drama “Fightland” at Starz and “Hip Hop Cop” at Hulu.
Taraji P. Henson is not only set to star as Nia Adams but will also serve as an executive producer through her production company, TPH Entertainment. This continues a busy period for the actress, who recently signed a first-look deal with Fox Entertainment Studios and a two-picture film agreement with Netflix.
Jackson had previously spoken about the project and Hensonโs casting in an interview with โThe Breakfast Clubโ in October.
The production studio behind the series will be UCP, a division of Universal Studio Group. As of early November 2025, a writer has not yet been attached to the project.
Taraji P. Henson’s Growing Role on Peacock
“The Accomplice” will mark Taraji P. Henson’s second project with the Peacock streaming service. She previously starred in the high-profile drama “Fight Night: The Million Dollar Heist”, which also featured Kevin Hart, Samuel L. Jackson, and her former “Empire” co-star Terrence Howard.
Henson brings significant star power and critical acclaim to the series. She received an Academy Award nomination for her role in “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button” and starred in the Oscar-nominated film “Hidden Figures.” She is perhaps most widely recognized for her Golden Globe-winning role as Cookie Lyon on the Fox music industry drama “Empire,” a performance that earned her two Emmy nominations.
What Happens Next for the Series
“The Accomplice” is currently in the development stage at Peacock. This means the core team and concept are in place, but the show has not yet been officially ordered to series. Key details, such as a production timeline, additional cast members, and a prospective release date, are still to be announced.
The project adds to 50 Cent’s rapidly expanding portfolio in television. Beyond his ongoing “Power” franchise, which includes the upcoming final season of “Power Book III: Raising Kanan” and the in-development “Power: Legacy,” he is also producing a docuseries about Sean “Diddy” Combs for Netflix.
For viewers, the pairing of Henson’s commanding screen presence with a gritty crime thriller about moral conflict promises a compelling new drama for Peacock’s lineup.
