The show, which first aired on Paramount+, will begin streaming on Netflix in the United States in 2026. This change is part of a larger deal between Netflix and Paramount that will bring around 20 shows to the streaming service. The announcement was made by Netflix during its fourth-quarter earnings call in January 2026. Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos stated the move is part of the streamer’s plan to expand its library of licensed shows. He said, “We have a new slate of licensed titles from Paramount which is going to bring a lot of new series, shows that Netflix has never had around the world”. The exact date in 2026 and which of the show’s seasons will be available on Netflix are still to be confirmed.
This deal is significant because Mayor of Kingstown has been a Paramount+ exclusive since it started in 2021. The show’s arrival on Netflix is similar to when Yellowstone moved to Peacock, which was due to an older agreement. The show tackles heavy themes like systemic racism, corruption, and violence.
The central character is Mike McLusky, played by Jeremy Renner. Mike steps into the role of the “mayor” after his older brother is killed.
