The penultimate episode of Tell Me Lies Season 3 delivered major emotional payoffs and troubling new questions. Titled “As I Climb Onto Your Back, I Will Promise Not to Sting,” the episode saw the fallout from Bree and Wrigley’s kiss, a shocking resolution to the tape storyline, and a heartbreaking setback for a key friendship. With the finale just days away, here is a full breakdown of everything that happened and when you can watch the explosive conclusion.

Episode 7 Recap: Major Twists and Heartbreaks

The episode picked up immediately after Wrigley and Bree shared their first kiss. Both resolved to break up with their current partners—Pippa and Evan—to pursue a real relationship. However, their plans were quickly complicated.

Evan, desperate to keep Bree, sought advice from Oliver and then sabotaged her night. He picked up Bree’s mother, Mary, from the train station for her big photography exhibition and took her for drinks, knowing her history with alcohol. When a drunk Mary arrived at the event, Evan lied, claiming she was already intoxicated. This cruel act was designed to make Bree feel only Evan could provide stability.

Meanwhile, Wrigley’s clean breakup with Pippa was undone when she called him in distress after also being dumped by Diana. Feeling guilty and falling back into old patterns, Wrigley went to comfort Pippa and they ended up sleeping together, a decision that crushed Bree when she found out.

The Tape: Did Lucy Finally Win Against Stephen?

The central drama continued to revolve around the confession tape Stephen has held over Lucy. In a risky move, Lucy tried to manipulate Stephen by pretending she wanted to get back together, hoping he would return the tape as a gesture of trust. Her plan was to have Stephen tell Bree about Lucy’s one-night stand with Evan, while Lucy and Evan would deny it, knowing Bree would never believe Stephen.

Stephen initially seemed to play along but saw through Lucy’s act when he overheard her praising her friendship with Bree. He told her, “You’re never getting that tape. Ever”.

Later, a completely broken Lucy went to Stephen’s room, not to scheme but to surrender. She begged to watch the tape just to end the unbearable anticipation of waiting for him to use it against her. Watching her emotional collapse, Stephen surprisingly took the memory card out of his laptop and handed it to her.

“My answer is very cynical. I think some people might want to think it’s because he loves her or has empathy. I think he’s just so disgusted by seeing her like this and seeing her grovel that it’s no longer fun,” said series creator Meaghan Oppenheimer, explaining Stephen’s motives.
Actor Jackson White added, “When he wins the game he doesn’t have any fun anymore… Of course he resigns, because he already won”.

Despite having the physical tape, a disturbing moment suggested Lucy’s ordeal may not be over. She later gave the same warning about Stephen to freshman Tegan, who reminded Lucy they’d already had that exact conversation the day before—a conversation Lucy had no memory of. This memory lapse raises serious questions about her mental state and the reliability of her victory.

Bree Discovers a Painful Truth

The episode ended with another devastating reveal for Bree. After learning Wrigley slept with Pippa, Bree went to Evan’s apartment seeking comfort. While there, she looked through old photos on his computer and found a picture from the Hawaiian party. The photo showed Evan with his hand on Lucy’s hip, confirming to Bree the truth about their hookup. The final shot was of Bree grabbing Evan’s phone, leaving her next move a tense mystery for the finale.
