Returning Cast and New Characters for the New Season

The core cast from the previous seasons returns to continue their complex stories.

Grace Van Patten and Jackson White are back as the central couple, Lucy and Stephen. They are joined again by Catherine Missal as Bree, Spencer House as Wrigley, Sonia Mena as Pippa, Branden Cook as Evan, and Alicia Crowder as Diana. Tom Ellis also returns as Professor Oliver.

Season 3 introduces two new significant characters to the drama at Baird College. Australian actor Costa Dโ€™Angelo joins the cast as a series regular playing Alex, a psychology graduate student with a complicated past connected to Bree. Iris Apatow appears in a recurring role as Amanda, a bubbly but fragile college freshman who is hiding a major secret.

What to Expect in Tell Me Lies Season 3

The new season picks up in the spring semester at Baird College. Lucy and Stephen have rekindled their rocky relationship and are attempting to make it work with a promise to do things differently.

However, past actions and secrets quickly threaten their fresh start. The official description from Hulu states that “past indiscretions hinder their best intentions, and Lucy finds herself embroiled in a controversy she wants nothing to do with”. The fallout from the events of the previous year forces their entire friend group to confront their own destructive behaviors. As scandals spread across campus, serious consequences loom for Lucy and everyone close to her.

The season continues to utilize the show’s signature dual-timeline format, flashing between their college years in 2008 and the aftermath in 2015.

The creator of the series, Meaghan Oppenheimer, has indicated that Season 3 may feature more of the 2015 timeline as the story moves toward resolving the major questions about the group’s future.

“I think by the third season, we will still have some 2008 because thereโ€™s stuff that we have to wrap up there. But I think it would be a little bit shifted in the sense that there will probably be more 2015 than 2008,” Oppenheimer told Variety.

The season follows the aftermath of the dramatic Season 2 finale cliffhanger. In that finale, Stephen played an eight-year-old audio recording for Bree, revealing that her fiancรฉ Evan had cheated on her with Lucy, just moments before Bree’s wedding was set to begin.
