The latest episode of The Boys Season 5 has left viewers shocked after a violent father-son fight. Episode 3, titled “Every One of You Sons of Bitches,” showed Homelander beating his son Ryan nearly to death. The scene has become the most talked-about moment of the season so far.

Many fans thought Ryan died right there on the screen. The attack was quick and brutal. Homelander did not hold back. But Ryan did survive the episode, though his future in the final season remains uncertain.

Ryan Confronts Homelander After Learning the Truth About His Mother

Ryan returns to the story in Episode 3 after hiding in Russia. Earlier in the season, he was shown taking out a group of soldiers who came to his location. His return to America happens when he goes to meet Zoe, Victoria Neuman’s daughter.

Billy Butcher watches from a distance and later talks to Ryan. Butcher tells Ryan the truth about what Homelander did to Becca, Ryan’s mother. Homelander had assaulted Becca, which led to Ryan’s birth. This news fills Ryan with anger.

Butcher tries to use Ryan as part of a plan to kill Homelander. He wants Ryan to lure Homelander into a trap where they can use the Supe-killing virus. Ryan agrees at first. But when the virus gets destroyed, Ryan decides to face his father alone.

He flies off to confront Homelander without any backup or weapons.

The Fight Shows Homelander’s True Brutality

The meeting between father and son starts with words. Ryan demands the truth about what happened to his mother. Homelander tries to lie at first. But Ryan can tell he is not being honest.

Then Ryan attacks. He actually lands some hits and makes Homelander bleed. For a few seconds, it looks like Ryan might have a chance. But that does not last long.

Homelander stops holding back. He throws Ryan to the ground and starts punching him over and over. The scene reminds many viewers of the Omni-Man fight from Invincible, where a father beats his son almost to death. After just four or five heavy hits, Ryan loses consciousness. His face is badly damaged.

Homelander stops and flies away. He leaves Ryan lying on the floor of an abandoned building.

Ryan Survives but His Condition Is Serious

The episode does not leave fans guessing for long. Near the end, Butcher finds Ryan’s body on the floor. He is still breathing, but just barely. Ryan is alive, but he has suffered severe injuries.

The question of why Homelander stopped has many possible answers. He might have believed Ryan was already dead. A few punches from the most powerful Supe on Earth would kill almost anyone. Homelander was not holding back during the attack.

Another possibility is that Homelander could not bring himself to kill his own child. He grew up in a lab without real parents. Ryan is the only blood relative he has. Even with all his evil actions, killing his own son might be a line he cannot cross.

Fans React to the Shocking Scene

Social media exploded after Episode 3 aired. Viewers shared their shock and concern for Ryan’s character across X and Reddit.

One fan wrote on X: “WHAT THE FUCK WHAT THE FUCK SO EVERYONE AND THEIR MOTHER WAS RIGHT ?!!!!”

Another viewer posted: “Ryan got one of his dads trying to get him to commit suicide and the other beating him to a pulp free him”

A Reddit user shared: “I never cared much for his character but this episode really sold me on him. Accepting his own death and going up against his dad is what a real superhero would do. I’m glad he’s not dead.”

Many fans made the comparison to Invincible. One person wrote: “bro’s doing the Omni-man treatment.”

What Ryan’s Survival Means for the Rest of the Season

Ryan’s survival changes everything between him and Homelander. Any feelings Ryan had for his father are now gone. The attack showed that Homelander sees his son as an enemy, not family.

Ryan may now fully join Butcher and The Boys. He has a personal reason to want Homelander dead. His mother’s assault and his father trying to kill him give him plenty of motivation.

The show has several episodes left before the finale. New episodes drop every Wednesday on Prime Video. Episode 4 will release on April 22, 2026. The series finale is scheduled for May 20, 2026.

Ryan’s Age and Actor Background

Cameron Crovetti plays Ryan on the show. The actor is 18 years old in real life. His character is meant to be around 14 years old within The Boys’ universe. Ryan was born in early 2012, which makes him about 14 as of 2026 when Season 5 takes place.

Crovetti has played Ryan since Season 2. He has grown up on screen alongside his character. The age difference between actor and character has not affected the show’s storytelling.
