The fifth and final season of The Boys will premiere on April 8, 2026, on Prime Video, kicking off the show’s last chapter with two new episodes. The announcement was made at the CCXP Brazil fan convention, where a new teaser trailer and details about the explosive final season were revealed.
The Final Season Premiere Schedule
The final season’s release will follow a weekly schedule, starting with the two-episode premiere on April 8, 2026. New episodes will be released every week, leading up to the series finale on May 20, 2026. The season is confirmed to have a total of eight episodes.
For viewers around the world, the show will stream exclusively on Prime Video, available in over 240 countries and territories. Prime Video is included with an Amazon Prime membership. In the United States, a membership costs $14.99 per month or $139 per year. Amazon offers discounted memberships for young adults and qualifying government-assistance recipients.
What Happens in The Boys Season 5
The official description for the final season sets a dark stage. Following the events of Season 4, Homelander’s America is now fully under his control. Hughie, Mother’s Milk, and Frenchie are imprisoned in a “Freedom Camp”. Annie, also known as Starlight, is trying to build a resistance but faces overwhelming opposition.
A major turning point comes when Billy Butcher returns with a dangerous new plan. He is ready to use a virus with the potential to eliminate every Supe, setting off events that will change the world.
The story for Season 5 also continues directly from where the second season of the spinoff Gen V ended. That season concluded with Annie recruiting the students from Godolkin University to join her growing resistance, with A-Train also confirmed to be part of the rebellion.
Cast Returns and a Major Supernatural Reunion
The main cast from the series is returning for the final season. This includes Karl Urban as Billy Butcher, Jack Quaid as Hughie Campbell, Antony Starr as Homelander, and Erin Moriarty as Annie January/Starlight. The cast also features Jessie T. Usher, Laz Alonso, Chace Crawford, Tomer Capone, Karen Fukuhara, and Colby Minifie.
The final season features the long-awaited return of Jensen Ackles as Soldier Boy. Showrunner Eric Kripke has said that Soldier Boy will have a significant role, exploring the complicated “father-son” relationship with Homelander.
The new teaser also confirmed the arrival of Jared Padalecki, Ackles’ co-star from Supernatural. In the trailer, Padalecki’s character, whose role is still a secret, is seen walking into a room followed by Soldier Boy and Homelander. Another Supernatural alum, Misha Collins, is also confirmed to appear in Season 5.
The First Teaser Trailer and Final Season Hints
The first teaser trailer for Season 5 was shown at CCXP Brazil. It shows Butcher rallying his team for one last fight. A chilling moment in the trailer shows Homelander brutally beating an unseen person, hinting that major character deaths are coming.
“You wouldn’t be the first throwing your life away in a war, but you would be the first saving the world doing it,” Karl Urban’s Butcher says in the trailer.
Actor Karl Urban has warned that “anyone is fair game” in this final season, and that the stakes are higher than ever. Showrunner Eric Kripke has echoed this, stating that because it’s the final season, the writers can take bigger risks and that not every character will survive.
The End of a Flagship Series
The Boys premiered in 2019 and quickly became a major hit for Prime Video. It is based on the comic book series by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson. The show has spawned its own universe, including the college-set spinoff Gen V, the animated series The Boys Presents: Diabolical, and upcoming projects like the prequel Vought Rising and The Boys: Mexico.
Eric Kripke, who created the TV series, has stated that he always envisioned a five-season story. Following the Season 4 finale, he confirmed that a fifth season was necessary to complete the story, describing it as the “show’s version of the apocalypse”.
