The central threat is quickly revealed to be the hooded prisoner, a man known as Havlock. The CIA dispatches agent Sidney Scofield to Alaska, revealing that Havlock is no ordinary criminal. The passenger manifest reveals the truth: the man Frank rescued from the crash site and left in his wife’s care at the hospital—the man he knew as the injured Marshal Granger—was actually Havlock in disguise.
By the time Frank realizes the deception, it is too late. Havlock has already escaped from the hospital and has taken Frank’s wife, Sarah, hostage. Havlock then leaves a message for Frank, instructing him to free another escaped inmate, Henry Dale Sickler, a money launderer, in exchange for Sarah’s safe return.
