The Apple TV+ thriller The Last Thing He Told Me wrapped up its second season with a finale that left viewers with plenty to process. The episode titled “Isia Moriendo Renascor” brought the Campano family drama to a head, with Jennifer Garner‘s Hannah and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau‘s Owen making a daring move while Judy Greer‘s Quinn stepped into the spotlight as the new power player.

The season followed Hannah, her stepdaughter Bailey (Angourie Rice), and Owen as they ran from the Campano crime family. After five years of living under protection from David Morse‘s Nicholas, a death in the Campano family ended their peace deal, forcing everyone back into danger.

Frank Campano’s Death Shifts the Balance of Power

The finale opened with a shocking moment. John Noble‘s character Frank Campano was shot multiple times by a hired killer. The hit happened as the family gathered in Paris to celebrate Frank’s birthday. Quinn rushed away from the scene just before the assassin struck, narrowly escaping death herself.

Frank’s death left the Campano organization in chaos. His son Teddy (Luke Kirby) tried to take control, but it quickly became clear he was not ready for the job. Quinn, who had kept her distance from the family business for years, stepped up to fill the void.

Quinn’s response to her father’s death showed her true nature. Instead of breaking down, she became more determined. She told the bank she was Frank’s daughter and worked to secure the family’s financial future. When Teddy struggled to handle the situation, Quinn made her position clear.

“It’s like, kill or be killed, for her at that point,” Greer explained about Quinn’s mindset. “It’s really refreshing for me — I play a lot of sad moms — to play someone who is faced with a tragedy, a trauma, and doesn’t crumble. She uses it to build her resolve.”

Nicholas Becomes a Hostage in the Campano’s Web

After Frank’s death, Hannah and Bailey managed to escape the hotel. But Nicholas stayed behind, too shocked by his friend’s murder to leave. That decision cost him. Teddy and Quinn kept him confined to the hotel, using him as a bargaining chip to get to Owen and Hannah.

Teddy wanted to find Owen because Owen and Hannah had stolen money meant for Perec, the head of a rival syndicate. Without that money, Teddy could not fix things with Perec. So he needed to find Owen, and Nicholas was his best tool.

During his captivity, Nicholas confronted Teddy about a long-held suspicion. Nicholas believed Teddy might have been behind the death of Kate, Nicholas’ daughter and Bailey’s mother. But Teddy denied it, just as he had many times before.

The Suitcase Contains the Family’s Secrets

While Nicholas was held captive, Hannah and Owen searched for a way out. They learned that Nicholas’ bodyguard Seth had brought a silver suitcase that Nicholas had ordered him to guard with his life. Hannah believed the suitcase might contain something useful.

When they opened it, they found files stacked inside. The documents contained records of every illegal activity Nicholas had committed for the Campanos. It was his personal insurance policy — evidence he could use to protect himself if the family turned against him.

But there was a catch. The files would incriminate not just Frank and Teddy, but Nicholas as well. Bailey did not want to see her grandfather go to prison at his age. Still, Hannah and Owen decided to digitize the files and use them as leverage.

Bailey Confronts Quinn About Her Mother’s Death

The biggest mystery of the season was who killed Kate. Throughout the show, Bailey tried to piece together memories from her childhood. She kept seeing flashes of Quinn picking her up from a pool, then another memory of Quinn at the scene of her mother’s accident.

Bailey realized these were two separate memories mixed together. The pool memory was from a different day. But the other memory was real — Quinn was there when Kate died.

Hannah and Bailey confronted Quinn at the hotel. For a while, Quinn denied any involvement. But Hannah pushed harder, and the truth finally came out.

Quinn admitted she was responsible for Kate’s death. She had learned that Kate was planning to speak with a U.S. Attorney about the Campano family’s crimes. Quinn wanted to stop her, but not kill her. She hired a driver to scare Kate, hoping to frighten her away from talking to the authorities.

But things went wrong. Young Bailey ran into the street. The driver swerved to avoid hitting the child and struck Kate instead. Kate died from her injuries.

“Quinn knew Kate had information to take down her family and was ready to share it with a U.S. Attorney, so she had to stop her before she did so,” the finale revealed. “Quinn insisted that the driver of the car was only supposed to scare Kate.”

Bailey Chooses Forgiveness Over Revenge

Learning the truth put Bailey in a difficult position. She had spent years blaming her father Owen for her mother’s death. Now she knew Quinn was the one responsible.

But instead of seeking revenge, Bailey made a different choice. She told Quinn she had a family who loved her — Hannah, Owen, and Nicholas. She said she could forgive Quinn and let the anger go. She asked Quinn to do the same.

“I have a family who loves me. I have a mother who cares about me, I have a father who cares about me, and I can forgive you. I can let this go. You need to let it go, too,” Rice said of Bailey’s speech to Quinn.

The moment moved Quinn. She agreed to let Owen come home. The family could finally stop running and return to a normal life.

Quinn Takes Over the Campano Empire

But the ending was not as simple as it seemed. Even though Quinn let Owen go, she was not finished with her plans.

Before Frank died, he had asked Quinn to take over the family business. He knew Teddy was not capable of leading. Quinn had always stayed away from the criminal side of the family, but Frank recognized she had the skills for it.

After Frank’s death, Quinn proved him right. Instead of trying to make peace with Perec’s syndicate, she cut a deal with their biggest competitor, Rochelle Barron. This move protected the Campanos from Perec’s threats and expanded their operations.

Quinn also made it clear to Teddy that she was now in charge. She told him she would be taking over the business because he was not built for it. She even warned that if he said no, she would have him killed.

The finale’s final scene showed Quinn making a phone call to Maris Anderson, a U.S. Marshal secretly working for the Campanos. “We have a few loose ends we need to tie up,” Quinn told her.

Cast Members Share Their Thoughts on the Ending

The actors had strong reactions to how the season wrapped up. Garner admitted she did not fully trust Quinn’s promise to let the family go.

“I think that they’re crazy to trust that Quinn will just let them go,” Garner said. “I think they feel like everything is out of the bag. The family history, the family secrets, have been exposed and they think, OK, Quinn’s apologized, she means it, we have this on her. Really, if they do trust her, it’s a fool’s errand.”

Greer found the ending surprising. She had not expected Quinn to become the main power player.

“When that happened, I was very shocked,” Greer admitted. “I was like … oh! The star is Quinn! Especially after the scene with Bailey in the hotel room, it’s like, wow, Quinn, come on!”

Rice believed Bailey truly trusted Quinn in that final moment. She said Bailey’s choice to forgive came from a real place.

“I think that final moment where Bailey asks for empathy, for forgiveness, for Quinn to let go, I think Bailey really trusts Quinn in that moment,” Rice explained. “I think whatever happens after that moment, I felt that the way that we played it, that that is real and true.”

The Mystery of the Loose Ends Remains

The finale left viewers with questions. Who are the “loose ends” Quinn mentioned? Will she come after Hannah and Owen again? Or does she have other targets in mind?

Co-creator Josh Singer refused to give a clear answer. “I’m going to leave that to the viewers to decide,” he said.

What is clear is that Quinn has changed. She spent years running from her family’s criminal past. Now she has embraced it fully. The question is whether she will stay true to her word and leave Hannah’s family alone, or if her plans will put them back in danger.
