Where The Story Left Off: Recap Of Episode 7 ‘Belonging’
The seventh episode, Belonging, set the stage for the finale by splitting the party and raising the stakes.
The central story involved The Gentleman, a powerful smuggler, offering the Mighty Nein a new job: to steal a mysterious Kryn artifact known as the Luxon Beacon. This offer caused tension within the group, leading each character to go their separate way throughout Zadash to pursue personal goals.
Key events from Episode 7 include:
- Caleb Widogast confronting his former teacher, the dangerous mage Trent Ikithon, with the encounter ending badly for Caleb due to interference.
- Beauregard Lionett going into hiding on the advice of her mentor, Dairon.
- Essek Thelyss, a Kryn Dynasty mage, betraying his associate Verrat after a devastating personal loss, further complicating the political landscape.
- Vess DeRogna, another powerful figure, acquiring a magic compass from The Gentleman, indicating her own interest in the Beacon.
By the end of the episode, the group is brought back together out of urgent need, though trust among them remains fragile.
What To Expect In The Season Finale ‘The Zadash Job’
The official episode summary for The Zadash Job states: “After the Mighty Nein reunite, they embark on an elaborate heist to steal the mysterious Kryn artifact for The Gentleman. But when their plan completely falls apart, it’s unclear how the Nein will even escape with their lives”.
This confirms the finale will center on the heist mission introduced in the previous episode. With the plan expected to fail, the story will focus on the group’s survival and how they handle a crisis together. The episode will also continue exploring major character arcs, particularly Caleb’s traumatic history with Trent Ikithon, which is set for a major confrontation.
The season finale will directly follow the events mentioned above, without introducing any plot spoilers.
The political conflict between the Dwendalian Empire and the Kryn Dynasty over the powerful Luxon Beacon is also expected to reach a critical point.

Series Background And Connection To Critical Role
The Mighty Nein is the second animated series from Critical Role Productions, adapting the group’s second major Dungeons & Dragons campaign. It follows their first show, The Legend of Vox Machina.
The new series is set in the same fantasy world of Exandria but takes place about 20 years later on a different continent, Wildemount. While it exists in the same world and contains small references to Vox Machina, the story is designed to stand on its own, and watching the previous series is not required.
A notable difference is the episode length. Episodes of The Mighty Nein run between 44 to 48 minutes, which is about double the length of Vox Machina episodes. The cast has stated the longer runtime allows for deeper exploration of character backstories and a more measured pace.
The first season consists of 8 episodes. The series was officially announced in January 2023 and was released on November 19, 2025.
