The cast and producers of the hit fantasy series The Mighty Nein have confirmed that season 2 is deep in production, with a target release window of 2026. In a recent interview, executive producer Sam Riegel stated that the team is working daily on the new season and has already completed several episodes, offering fans the most substantial update yet on the show’s future.
The news comes as the first season concludes its successful run on Prime Video, which began on November 19, 2025. The series, an adaptation of the popular second campaign from the Dungeons & Dragons web series Critical Role, was renewed for a second season well ahead of its premiere as part of a multi-season plan with Amazon Studios.
In an interview tied to the season 1 finale, Sam Riegel, who serves as both an executive producer and the voice of Nott the Brave, provided a detailed look at the current production status. He confirmed that the entire team is actively working on bringing the next chapter to life.
“We are every day working on mixes and animation retakes and pickups and ADR. So they’ll be done for next year, and we hope to air it sometime next year, for sure,” Riegel told Screen Rant.
This update aligns with previous comments from fellow executive producer Travis Willingham (voice of Fjord), who noted in June 2025 that the voice cast had already recorded the entirety of the first and second seasons. The significant head start on production, with work on both seasons occurring simultaneously, is a key reason the 2026 target is seen as highly achievable.
While Prime Video has not announced an official release date, the production progress strongly suggests a 2026 premiere. Animation is a lengthy process, but the show benefits from its early planning. For comparison, the sister series The Legend of Vox Machina had about a year between its first two seasons, though later waits were longer.
The streamer will likely decide the exact date based on its overall schedule, potentially considering the release window for The Legend of Vox Machina season 4. However, with multiple episodes reportedly already in an advanced state, fans have good reason to be optimistic about a sooner-than-typical return.
Season 1 concluded with the epic finale “The Zadash Job,” which left the fates of the Mighty Nein and the world of Exandria in a precarious state. The group’s attempt to steal the powerful Luxon Beacon from the Soltryce Academy was upended by an attack from the Kryn Dynasty.
The finale’s most critical moment involved Yasha Nydoorin (voiced by Ashley Johnson). After touching the Beacon, she was freed from a mysterious magical control that had dictated her actions. The finale ended with a newly vulnerable Yasha asking the group for help, while the dangerous Beacon remained in their possession. This cliffhanger, along with unresolved tensions between the Dwendalian Empire and the Kryn Dynasty, sets a direct and urgent path for season 2.
Yasha’s Central Role: With her newfound freedom, Yasha is expected to step into a much larger role in season 2. Her backstory, including flashbacks to her late wife Zuala shown in season 1, will likely be explored in depth as she integrates fully with the team.
Unresolved Character Arcs: Several personal journeys were left hanging. Fjord continues to grapple with the sinister source of his warlock powers. Caleb remains haunted by his past under the cruel Archmage Trent Ikithon (Mark Strong). Furthermore, the fan-favorite arc of Jester and her possibly imaginary deity, The Traveler (voiced by Matthew Mercer), will continue to develop, with the show teasing whether the entity is real or a figment of her imagination.
Escalating Political War: The central conflict between the Dwendalian Empire and the Kryn Dynasty is poised to erupt into full-scale war. The Mighty Nein, now in possession of the artifact both nations desperately want, will find themselves hunted from all sides.

Returning Cast: The core cast of Laura Bailey (Jester), Taliesin Jaffe (Mollymauk), Ashley Johnson, Liam O’Brien (Caleb), Marisha Ray (Beau), Sam Riegel, and Travis Willingham will all return. Guest stars like Lucy Liu as the Bright Queen and Ming-Na Wen as Dairon are also expected to reprise their roles as the political conflict deepens.
In an era where many shows face uncertain renewals, The Mighty Nein stands out. Its second season was confirmed early, thanks to the proven success of Critical Role‘s partnership with Amazon and the strong performance of the first season, which earned a rare 100% critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes. This security allows the story to be told as a planned, multi-season epic without the fear of sudden cancellation.
