The medical drama The Pitt continues to push its characters to the edge. Season 2 Episode 12, titled “6:00 P.M.,” dropped on March 26, 2026, and it left viewers with a tense cliffhanger involving a patient named Orlando. The episode focused heavily on the growing fractures among the staff at the Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center, especially between Dr. Michael “Robby” Rabinowitz (Noah Wyle) and Charge Nurse Dana Evans (Katherine LaNasa) .
Why Did Orlando Collapse and Return to the ER?
To understand the weight of the ending, viewers need to remember Orlando Diaz. He first appeared earlier in the season as a diabetic patient cared for by Dr. Samira Mohan (Supriya Ganesh) . When Orlando learned that his treatment would leave him with a massive medical bill he could not afford, he made a difficult choice. He ran away from the hospital against medical advice (AMA) because he was worried about providing food and school supplies for his family.
Dr. Mohan felt terrible about the situation. She had tried to help by packing a bag of medications and supplies for him, but he left before she could give them to him. Now, five hours later, Orlando is back in the ER. He was found unconscious after falling from a catwalk at a warehouse where he works a second job as a security guard. He returned with severe head trauma. For Dr. Mohan, this is her “worst nightmare” come true. Supriya Ganesh, who plays Mohan, explained that this situation connects directly to how Mohan lost her father, making the moment deeply personal and stressful for her character.
Dana Evans Takes Matters Into Her Own Hands
The episode opened with the immediate fallout from the previous week’s cliffhanger. A patient named Curtis Larson, who had cocaine and alcohol in his system, woke up in a psychotic state and put nursing student Emma Nolan (Laëtitia Hollard) in a chokehold. Dana reacted instantly. She pulled a syringe of Versed (a fast-acting sedative) from her pocket—a vial she had been carrying “just in case” since she was assaulted by a patient in Season 1.
She injected the patient to stop the attack. By the time Robby arrived, Curtis was on the floor with a bloody nose, and Emma was safe. Dana claimed he slipped, but everyone knew the truth: she had struck him to get him to release Emma. While Robby was focused on the legal risks and hospital optics, Dana refused to leave Emma ’s side. She insisted Emma file a police report—something Dana herself refused to do after her own attack, showing how much she wants to protect the younger nurse from the same trauma.
Robby and Dana’s Heated Argument
The tension between Robby and Dana boiled over in this episode. Robby tried to call out Dana for her actions, suggesting she was not in the right frame of mind to lead. But Dana fired back with a verbal gut punch. She accused Robby of letting his own stress and talk of a sabbatical get to his head, making him see problems in everyone else.
“Sometimes it’s like you’re just tempting death because you don’t give a s**t anymore. It’s not just about the motorcycle, it’s about the whole damn thing. Robby, you’re actually telling people you’re going to a place called Smash My Head In.” – Dana Evans
Later in the episode, Dana went outside for a cigarette and Robby followed. He admitted he knew she had been carrying the Versed in case her attacker from Season 1 ever came back. He expressed his frustration that he could not leave for his sabbatical with the ER feeling like a “s**tshow.” But Dana argued that the hospital is bigger than one person, saying it survived without her and without his mentor, and it would survive without him too.

Staff Dynamics Crumble Under Pressure
While Robby and Dana fought, other staff members were dealing with their own issues. Dr. Baran Al-Hashimi (Sepideh Moafi) learned the full story about Dr. Frank Langdon (Patrick Ball) stealing pills in Season 1. She was shocked, and it changed her behavior toward him. Throughout the episode, she started sidelining him, questioning his suggestions, and favoring other residents like Whitaker and Victoria.
Meanwhile, Dr. Santos (Isa Briones) was seen pocketing a scalpel, continuing a storyline about her self-harm scars. She finally opened up to Whitaker about why she dislikes Langdon, revealing that he gaslit her on her first day, making her question her own skills. Whitaker, sensing she was angry about him moving out, offered to stay as her roommate, which seemed to calm her down.
