A new K-drama is offering a fresh and charming take on one of Korea’s most famous folk heroes. His family, including the Queen Dowager, is more concerned with arranging a politically advantageous marriage for him than with his crime-solving interests.
But Yi Yeol is much sharper than he lets on. His work at the police bureau is not just a game; it’s a carefully planned way for him to protect the people of Joseon while keeping his true abilities hidden from the political players in the palace. His current obsession is unmasking the thief Gil Dong, whom he believes is cleverly manipulating public opinion.
A Fateful and Misleading First Meeting
The central charm of the first episode is the moment these two destined rivals accidentally meet, while both are in disguise. After ruining his own marriage prospects on purpose, Yi Yeol is wandering the market dressed in rags. When he gets into trouble, Eun-jo, on her way home from a distressing meeting about her marriage, mistakes him for a runaway slave and bravely steps in to save him from a beating.
