Bethesda’s Todd Howard has publicly expressed interest in bringing actor Ron Perlman, the iconic narrator of the Fallout game series, into future projects, including the hit television adaptation on Prime Video. Howard’s comments, made in a recent interview, have fueled longstanding fan hopes and coincide with Perlman’s own cryptic remarks about potential involvement.
The discussion emerges as the franchise experiences a major resurgence, driven by the critically acclaimed second season of the television series and ongoing plans to integrate its storylines directly into the future of the game universe.
The Legacy of a Legendary Voice
Ron Perlman’s deep, resonant voice is inextricably linked to the identity of the Fallout franchise. He has served as the narrator for the opening cinematic sequences of nearly every mainline game since the original in 1997, delivering the series’ famous tagline: “War. War never changes.”. His voice also appears in various other roles within the games, including a newscaster in Fallout 4.
This decades-long association has made his participation in the live-action series a top request from the fan community. The television show, which has been confirmed as canon within the overall Fallout timeline, has so far proceeded without Perlman’s signature narration.
Howard’s Tease and Perlman’s Cryptic Response
In an interview with Dexerto in mid-December, Todd Howard, who serves as both Bethesda Game Studios director and an executive producer on the TV series, addressed the possibility directly.
“Look, love Ron, we’ve worked with him a lot,” Howard said. “And so, I think when you think about him and you think about that voice, you know, you think about like, ‘Heyโฆ is there a place and what’s the right one?’”.
While not a confirmation, Howard’s statement indicates active consideration at the highest levels of production. Perlman himself has stoked speculation. During a FAN EXPO Canada 2025 panel, when asked about joining the Fallout TV series, he replied, “I can’t comment on thatโฆ” before pantomiming smoking a cigarette to audience laughter. Earlier, at Corpus Christi Comic Con, he similarly stated he “can’t talk about number two” when asked about Fallout, adding, “But just in ‘not talking’ about it I think I just talked about it”.
Fueling Speculation: The Season 2 Premiere
The speculation intensified when Ron Perlman attended the Los Angeles premiere for Fallout Season 2 earlier in December and appeared in a photo with the main cast. Such appearances often, but not always, signal involvement in a project. Some fans have theorized that the deep, gravelly voice heard in the official Season 2 trailer may belong to Perlman, potentially voicing a Super Mutant character.
The series itself continues to be a major success. Season 2 premiered its first episode on December 17, 2025, releasing weekly until early February 2026. The show’s impact on the games has been substantial, with Howard noting that playership numbers spiked five to six times above normal during the first season’s release.

A Unified Canon for Future Fallout Stories
Howard’s interest in involving Perlman aligns with a broader strategy to tightly weave the television series and video games into a single, cohesive narrative future. In a separate interview with the BBC, Howard confirmed that the next major game entry, referred to by fans as Fallout 5, will exist in a world shaped by the show.
“Fallout 5 will be existing in a world where the stories and events of the show happened or are happening,” Howard stated. “We are taking that into account.”
This commitment to a unified canon underscores the importance of every narrative decision, including how and when to incorporate foundational elements like Perlman’s iconic presence. Howard has emphasized that the collaborative relationship with showrunners Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy is built on mutual respect for the source material.
Work is already underway on Season 3 of the television series, with scripts being written and a target to begin filming in the summer of 2026. This ongoing development provides a clear opportunity for Perlman’s potential introduction to the live-action wasteland.
The Franchise’s Cross-Media Resurgence
The conversation around Perlman highlights the unique position of the Fallout franchise. It is currently sustaining a large audience across multiple, interconnected platforms: the ongoing Fallout 76 online game, the recently updated Fallout 4, the mobile game Fallout Shelter, and the television series. Bethesda is actively working to lower the barrier for fans of the show to try the games through cloud streaming services on Samsung TVs, Xbox Cloud Gaming, and Amazon Luna.
The core creative team views the TV show not as a simple adaptation but as “the next story” in the Fallout universe, equivalent to a new game entry. In this context, finding the right role for Ron Perlman is not merely fan service, but a meaningful decision for the future of a now multi-platform storytelling universe.
