Tracker delivered one of its most intense episodes this season as Justin Hartley’s Colter Shaw worked against the clock to find a young boy who disappeared during a school field trip. Season 3, Episode 14, titled “The Field Trip,” aired on CBS on Sunday, March 29, 2026, and brought viewers a rescue mission filled with tension and emotional weight.

The story started at a museum in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where a class field trip turned into a nightmare. A fire alarm forced everyone to evacuate, but 8-year-old Alex Clark never came out with his classmates. His parents, Sara (Elyse Levesque) and James Clark (Jon Beavers) , had been looking for five hours before reaching out to Colter. While police thought Alex had simply wandered off, his parents believed someone had taken him.

A Father’s Desperation Pushes Colter to Act Fast

Colter arrived at the museum to find James Clark upset with the police investigation. James felt the authorities were not doing enough, and his frustration created tension right away. Colter introduced himself to Detective Monroe (Luvia Petersen) , who allowed him to help. Security cameras did not cover the area where Alex was last seen, and no one knew who set off the fire alarm.

James insisted on joining Colter as they retraced Alex’s path. The exhibit manager let them into a staff area that led to a loading dock. The door was locked, but an employee would have had access. Colter searched the loading dock and found a cleaning cart with a sticker underneath—the same sticker given to kids during the field trip. This small clue pointed to someone on the museum staff.

Randy (Chris Lee) , Colter’s tech expert, identified the custodian who worked that morning: Sylvia Sloane (Brittany Willacy) . She had left right after the fire alarm. Background checks showed she had drug charges and had lost custody of her two boys after a psychotic break.

Colter went to Sylvia’s house, with James ignoring orders to stay in the truck. James confronted Sylvia and her friend Mike, leading to a physical fight. After Colter broke it up, Sylvia explained her situation. She was working to earn money to fight her ex-husband for custody of her children. She then mentioned seeing Alex with his teacher, Mr. Brooks, who asked her to open the employee exit. She opened the door, and they left together.

The Investigation Takes a Dangerous Turn

The focus shifted to Mr. Brooks. James had Brooks’ address, and Colter went to investigate while James stayed behind. At Brooks’ apartment, Colter found the teacher’s computer open to Alex’s mother’s Facebook page. Drawings made by Alex were nearby, including one titled “My Special Friend” showing Alex with Brooks.

Colter photographed a drawing of a house with a yellow door. Detective Monroe arrived, and Colter shared his findings. She had interviewed Brooks earlier but had not considered him a suspect. Randy tracked Brooks’ car to Alex’s street. When Colter arrived, he saw Sara preparing to leave. She mentioned her neighbor, Noah, who had a similar appearance to Brooks and had been teaching Alex to play chess.

The house Alex drew with the yellow door belonged to Noah, not Brooks. Colter realized Brooks had gone to Noah’s house to confront him. At Noah’s place, Colter found signs of a struggle. The chess board was overturned, and Brooks’ phone lay on the floor. Ice cream and a game set up inside showed Noah had been caring for Alex. Upstairs, a telescope pointed directly into Alex’s bedroom. Noah had gained the family’s trust and taken the boy.

Randy dug into Noah’s history and found he had a record, including reports of loitering near a preschool. Noah’s phone was turned off, but Randy accessed a digital photo frame showing Noah at a cabin. Metadata placed the cabin in a local marsh, and records showed it belonged to Noah’s father.

Colter’s Rescue Saves Alex and Brooks

At the cabin, Noah watched cartoons with Alex. Alex wanted to call his mother, but Noah told him she was still at work. Noah stepped outside and pulled Brooks from his car trunk. Brooks had followed Noah and tried to stop him. A fight broke out, and Noah struck Brooks with an axe.

Alex saw the fight from the porch and ran into the woods. Noah chased after him with the axe still in hand. Colter arrived to find Brooks injured but alive. He gave Brooks his phone to call 9-1-1 and went after Alex.

Colter followed Noah’s voice through the woods. He found Alex hiding behind a tree and jumped out to stop Noah, holding him at gunpoint. Colter ordered Alex to turn away. Instead of shooting, Colter kicked Noah hard enough to break his ribs. He then comforted Alex, assuring him he was safe and his parents were on the way.

Detective Monroe and backup arrived with an ambulance. Colter held Alex until his parents arrived. The family reunited in an emotional moment. At the hospital, Colter visited Brooks, who blamed himself for not calling police sooner. Brooks had gone to Alex’s parents to talk about the drawings and saw the yellow door, realizing the truth too late. Colter told him he was brave for trying to help.

James found Colter in the hospital hallway and handed over the reward. He apologized for his behavior and promised to spend more time with his son. Colter reminded him that second chances with family are rare and valuable.

Reenie’s Case Connects to Bigger Issues

While Colter worked the missing child case, Reenie (Fiona Rene) continued her investigation into a wrongful death lawsuit. She visited Kurtis Lauper, a former project manager for a housing development. Lauper refused to help at first, but Reenie persisted. He revealed that contaminated materials were used instead of approved insulation. Workers got sick, and when he tried to report it, the company made him look crazy. His ex-wife had him committed.

Lauper had gathered evidence but was afraid to hand it over. Reenie convinced him she was on her side. She later met with Maxine (Kathleen Robertson) , who brought her onto the case. Reenie confirmed Lauper’s information pointed to wrongful death, witness intimidation, and obstruction of justice. Maxine agreed to trust Reenie’s instincts.

Guest Stars and Connections

Episode 14 featured Jon Beavers as James Clark. Beavers currently stars in the Hulu series Paradise as Agent Billy Pace. He also appeared in This Is Us alongside Justin Hartley, giving fans of both shows a welcome connection. Elyse Levesque played Sara Clark, while Luvia Peterson portrayed Detective Monroe. Brittany Willacy appeared as Sylvia Sloane, and Chris Lee continued as Randy.

Season 3 of Tracker has 22 episodes, the longest season of the series so far. New episodes air Sundays at 9:00 PM Eastern Time (ET) on CBS.
