Mike White’s hit HBO series is filling its guest roster for the French Riviera, welcoming a comedy legend and a fresh face to its ensemble.
Steve Coogan and Caleb Jonte Edwards are the newest actors set to check into The White Lotus for its fourth season. HBO confirmed the casting, adding two more names to the growing list of guests and staff who will populate the luxury resort this time around. They join previously announced cast members Alexander Ludwig and AJ Michalka.
As with every season, specific details about the characters and plot are being kept secret. The series is known for its dark comedy that explores the tense and often messy dynamics between the wealthy guests and the employees of exclusive resorts. Season 4 will follow this format with a brand new story set in France.
The Newest Guests at the White Lotus
The casting of Steve Coogan brings a celebrated and versatile actor into the show’s orbit. Coogan is a two-time Oscar nominee, recognized for co-writing and producing the film Philomena. He is internationally famous for creating and portraying the character of Alan Partridge, a socially awkward television and radio presenter, a role he has played across decades in various series and specials. His other notable works include the improv-heavy travel series The Trip with Rob Brydon and films like Tropic Thunder and the Despicable Me franchise.
In contrast, Caleb Jonte Edwards is a newcomer with very few on-screen credits. His most prominent role to date was a guest appearance in the Australian crime drama Black Snow. His casting continues The White Lotus tradition of mixing established stars with emerging talent, a formula that has proven successful in past seasons.
Series creator Mike White is currently writing the new season.
A Luxury Setting on the French Riviera
The location is a key character in every season of The White Lotus, and Season 4 will be no exception. Following the tropical beaches of Hawaii, Sicily, and Thailand, the next chapter will unfold in the south of France.
The primary filming location will be the Chรขteau de la Messardiรจre in Saint-Tropez. This 19th-century palace was converted into a luxury hotel in the 1920s and is now part of the five-star Airelles Collection. The hotel perfectly fits the show’s aesthetic, with rooms reportedly costing upwards of $12,000 during the peak summer season. Filming is also expected to take place in Paris and other parts of the French Riviera.
More Casting News and Rumors
While Coogan and Edwards are now confirmed, the casting process for the season is still very much active. Reports suggest that other well-known actors are in discussions to join the vacation.
According to industry reports, Helena Bonham Carter is in negotiations for a role. Additionally, Chris Messina, known for roles in Air and The Newsroom, is in early talks to join the season. HBO has not commented on these potential castings. These reports indicate that creator Mike White and HBO are aiming high to fill out the ensemble, seeking a mix of top-tier and rising actors.
Past seasons have featured sprawling casts that included stars like Walton Goggins, Jennifer Coolidge, Aubrey Plaza, and Natasha Rothwell. The third season, set in Thailand, earned eight acting Emmy nominations, highlighting the show’s strength as a showcase for performers.

Production Timeline and Fan Anticipation
An official release date for The White Lotus Season 4 has not been announced by HBO. However, reports suggest that production is scheduled to begin in spring 2026. This timeline aligns with previous seasons, where filming often started several months before the season’s premiere.
The excitement for the new setting is already palpable, even among the show’s alumni. Jason Isaacs, who starred in the Thailand-set third season, joked about his envy for the new cast.
โPure jealousy,โ Jason Isaacs told Entertainment Tonight. โI can get a train from where I live to be in France. Itโs not a 15-hour flight like it was in Thailand. But the truth is, I am jealous because Iโve got friends who are going to be in it, and theyโre going to have the ride of their lives.”
As the writers’ room works and more casting is finalized, fans can expect more details about the French escapade to be revealed in the coming months. The combination of a luxurious new locale, a blend of experienced and new actors, and Mike White’s sharp social satire promises another must-watch season of television.
