WINNER’s Song Mino is currently under investigation for allegedly manipulating his attendance during his alternative military service.1 Now, new accusations have surfaced, further complicating the situation.
New Allegations Against Mino
Dispatch, the media outlet that initially accused Mino of falsifying his attendance as a social service worker at the Mapo Community Facility, has released another report. They allege that the K-pop idol was seen at parties and camping trips in places like Goseong and Yangyang in Gangwon Province. Dispatch shared photos as evidence, showing Mino with long hair, sometimes shirtless, wearing shorts, and displaying his tattoos.
These new claims have intensified the controversy surrounding the alleged attendance manipulation. Previously, Korean media reported that an official from the Mapo Community Facility explained Mino’s frequent medical leaves by citing his social phobia, panic disorder, and bipolar disorder. However, the emergence of photos showing him at parties has raised questions about the validity of these mental health claims.
An official overseeing social service personnel also stated that Mino was assigned to a less crowded area due to his reported difficulty being in crowded places. This led to his transfer from the Mapo Facility Management Corporation to the public welfare community. However, Dispatch’s report, which shows him interacting with others at parties, seems to contradict this explanation.
Details of Mino’s Activities
Reports also allege that in August 2023, a few months after starting his mandatory military service as a social worker, Mino attended a DJ party at a popular café in Goseong.
Partygoers reportedly said:
“Song Mino drank alcohol, smoked, and enjoyed the party. There were no signs of social phobia or panic disorder.”
His activities also reportedly included joining a running group to lose weight before returning to entertainment activities.
Ongoing Investigation
Following Dispatch’s initial report, an investigation is underway into the alleged falsification of Mino’s attendance. The police will examine CCTV footage, entry and exit logs, location data, and testimonies from facility employees to determine the truth of the accusations.
