The One Piece anime remake from Wit Studio and Netflix just got a major update. The team behind the project dropped a new special teaser on April 7, 2026, showing off fresh visuals from the East Blue arc. They also confirmed that a big announcement is right around the corner.

Fans have been waiting for news since the project was first announced in December 2023. The official One Piece staff account on X shared the new look, which features updated character designs and modern visuals. The message told viewers to “STAY TUNED,” which has everyone guessing that a full trailer or release date could drop very soon.

Wit Studio CEO Explains Tighter Pacing and Modern Art Direction for Netflix Remake

George Wada, the President and CEO of Wit Studio and Production I.G, recently explained what fans can expect from The One Piece. He spoke on The Ai Show about how the remake will be different from the original Toei Animation version that started in 1999.

Wada said the original creator Eiichiro Oda himself worried that the old anime might not connect with younger viewers today. The 4:3 screen ratio and slower pacing from the 1999 show feel outdated. The new remake will fix these issues with tighter storytelling and a condensed structure. Wada promised the series will be tight “without unnecessary stretching.”

“The biggest challenge lies in the immense size of its fan base and exceeding their expectations. Over the years, fans have formed their own vision of the story, and we want to create something that goes beyond that imagination.” – George Wada, Wit Studio CEO

The remake will also move away from the children’s programming time slot that the original show used. Wit Studio wants The One Piece to match the quality and mature visual style of their past hits like Attack on Titan, SPY x FAMILY, and Vinland Saga.

Character Designer Confirms Active Production on One Piece Reboot

Kyoji Asano, the character designer for The One Piece remake, confirmed that the team is still “actively working” on the production. Asano, who also worked on Attack on Titan and SPY x FAMILY, shared on social media that he was working on cuts for the new anime. This update came in mid-March 2026.

While progress has been slower than some fans hoped, the fact that character designers and animators are actively working shows the project is moving forward. The remake will revisit the East Blue Saga from the beginning, giving new viewers a fresh entry point into the 1,000+ episode series.

The production team includes some of the biggest names in the anime industry. Masashi Koizuka (Attack on Titan) is directing, with Hideaki Abe (Jujutsu Kaisen) as assistant director. Taku Kishimoto (Haikyuu!!) handles the series composition.

New Character Designs and Concept Art Revealed for East Blue Arc

The official One Piece staff account released new character settings and design previews in early April 2026. The images show Monkey D. Luffy, Zoro, Nami, Usopp, Sanji, and Shanks with updated looks. The designs keep the original spirit of Eiichiro Oda’s art but add more modern, detailed animation lines.

The official One Piece store also added two new illustrations from the Wit Studio remake for sale. Both illustrations come from the early adventures in the East Blue Saga, where Luffy starts his journey as a pirate. This move suggests that promotional materials are being prepared for a full marketing push.

Fans on social media have reacted positively to the new character designs. Many noted how the new art style respects Oda’s original work while giving it a fresh look for 2026. The Straw Hat crew looks both familiar and new at the same time.

What to Expect From Wit Studio’s One Piece Anime Remake

The One Piece remake will start from the Romance Dawn arc and cover the East Blue Saga. This includes Luffy’s childhood with Shanks, his meeting with Zoro, Nami’s village, Usopp’s introduction, and Sanji joining at the Baratie restaurant. The arc ends with the crew heading to the Grand Line.

Wit Studio plans to condense the story without losing what makes One Piece special. Wada explained that the team will restructure the serialization while staying faithful to the source material and Toei’s adaptation. The goal is to create something that works for modern audiences who might find 1,000+ episodes too hard to start.

The remake is different from the HD remaster that Toei Animation released on Netflix starting November 2025. That remaster simply updated the original episodes to HD quality. Wit Studio’s version is a complete redo from the ground up with new animation, new voice work, and a new pacing structure.

Netflix has not announced a specific release date for The One Piece yet. But with the teaser now out and a big announcement promised, fans expect to hear something soon. The streaming service already has a successful live-action One Piece series, with Season 2 titled “One Piece: Into the Grand Line” arriving March 10, 2026.
