A new TV spot for the upcoming Marvel Studios series has given fans their first clear look at the super suit. The costume worn by Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Simon Williams is a faithful translation of the hero’s modern comic book look.

The series is a new type of story for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It follows Simon Williams, an actor struggling to find work in Hollywood. His life changes when he meets Trevor Slattery, played by Ben Kingsley, and they both try to get roles in a movie remake of a superhero film called “Wonder Man”. The show is described as a satire that looks at the entertainment industry and superhero stories from the inside. All eight episodes will be available to stream on Disney+ starting January 27, 2026.

Comic Accurate Design Details of the New Suit

The brief shot from the trailer shows a costume that closely matches Wonder Man’s appearance in recent Marvel comics. The suit is a sleeveless, dark-colored bodysuit. It features distinctive red stripes or highlights along the sides and on the boots. Actor Yahya Abdul-Mateen II also wears the character’s signature red-lens sunglasses in the scene.

This design directly mirrors one of Simon Williams’s well-known costumes from the comics. Specifically, it matches a look he wore during his time with the Avengers, which consisted of a black bodysuit with red stripes on the boots, wrists, shoulders, and sides. The choice to use this modern, sleek design avoids some of the character’s more colorful and exaggerated historical outfits from the 1970s and 1980s.

The Costume’s Role in the Show’s Story

An interesting story detail is that this superhero suit might first appear as a movie costume within the show’s plot. In the series, Simon Williams is auditioning for the lead role in a fictional film reboot of “Wonder Man”. The trailer scene showing the costume appears to be Simon acting on a movie set, complete with a tennis ball on a stick used to stand in for a CGI character.

“I think the coolest thing to me is that it doesnโ€™t feel like itโ€™s about superheroes,” actor Yahya Abdul-Mateen II said about the series. “To me, it feels like itโ€™s about ambition, friendship, and dreams.”

This meta-narrative allows the show to have fun with superhero tropes while also paying respect to the source material. The costume serves as a bridge between Simon’s life as a struggling actor and his eventual journey into becoming an actual superhero.

Where Wonder Man Fits in the Marvel Universe

The series is part of Phase Six of the MCU and will be released under the Marvel Spotlight banner. This banner is typically used for stories that are more character-focused and can stand on their own without requiring viewers to have seen all previous Marvel movies and shows.

The core cast includes Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Simon Williams and Ben Kingsley returning as Trevor Slattery. They are joined by Demetrius Grosse as Simon’s brother, Eric Williams, and Ed Harris as Simon’s agent, Neal Saroyan. The show was created by Destin Daniel Cretton and is showrun by Andrew Guest.
