The next chapter in the Yellowstone universe now has an official start date. Y: Marshals, the new series following Luke Grimes as Kayce Dutton, will premiere on Sunday, March 1, 2026. The show will air at 8 p.m. ET on CBS, creating a powerful lineup of Sunday night television.

The New Story for Kayce Dutton

Y: Marshals picks up after the events of Yellowstone’s fifth season. Kayce Dutton has left the ranch behind to join a specialized unit of the U.S. Marshals in Montana. The show’s story will see him combining his unique background as a cowboy and a former Navy SEAL to bring justice to the region. He and his new team must balance duty, family, and the psychological cost of serving as a last line of defense.

In a brief teaser, Kayce hints at his motivations, stating, “I’m changing paths, trying to find a new beginning.” Another clip shows him grappling with his past, saying, “I’m just grappling with some skeletons I’d like to keep in my closet.” This new path marks a major shift for the character, who sought peace and an end to violence at the conclusion of Yellowstone.

Returning Faces from the Dutton World

While Kayce is stepping into a new role, he won’t be alone. Several key characters from Yellowstone are joining the spinoff.

Brecken Merrill returns as Tate Dutton, Kayce’s son. Gil Birmingham is back as Thomas Rainwater, the high chief of the Confederated Tribes of Broken Rock, and Mo Brings Plenty reprises his role as Mo, Rainwater’s right-hand man. The confirmed return of Tate, while Kayce is seen wearing a wedding ring in teasers, has left fans wondering about the status of Monica Dutton, though there has been no official word on actress Kelsey Asbille’s involvement.

Meet the New Marshal Team

The series introduces a new group of actors who will form Kayce’s team and allies in the Marshals service.

Arielle Kebbel will play Belle, Ash Santos plays Andrea, and Tatanka Means is Miles, all fellow U.S. Marshals. Logan Marshall-Green joins the cast as Pete Calvin, a friend from Kayce’s military days. Additionally, Brett Cullen will appear in a recurring role as Harry Gifford, the head of the U.S. Marshals in Montana.

Behind the Scenes and Production

Taylor Sheridan is the creative force behind the new series, serving as an executive producer. The day-to-day showrunner is Spencer Hudnut, known for his work on the military drama SEAL Team, which aligns well with the themes of Y: Marshals. Luke Grimes is also an executive producer on the project.

Filming for the series took place in Summit County, Utah, a familiar location for the franchise as it was used for the first three seasons of Yellowstone. According to a recent update from actress Arielle Kebbel, the team was working hard to finish production. “We’ve been working so hard. We’re actually wrapping filming in like three weeks,” she said in a recent interview.

CBS’s Big Bet on Sunday Nights

CBS is positioning Y: Marshals as a centerpiece of its programming. The show will lead into the third season of Tracker at 9 p.m., followed by the second season of Watson at 10 p.m. This strategic scheduling demonstrates the network’s confidence in the Yellowstone brand’s ability to draw a large audience on a broadcast platform. The series will be available on CBS and for streaming on Paramount+ the following day.
