The doctors of Grey Sloan Memorial are getting ready for another wild ride. Camilla Luddington, who plays Dr. Jo Wilson on the long-running ABC medical show, is telling fans to get ready for a finale packed with twists. She says the Grey’s Anatomy Season 22 finale will leave viewers with more questions than answers.
In a recent interview, Luddington opened up about the chaos heading to our screens. She confirmed that the season ending on Thursday, May 7, is not a simple goodbye. Instead, it is a high-stakes hour of television that sets up many different stories for the next season.
“There’s just so many cliffhangers in the finale. Like even as an actor, it’s frustrating. I’m like, ‘Can I get this script for next season? Can I get the premiere?’ ”
The actress admits that even the cast is left in the dark about how these stories end. She joked that it is hard to wait for the scripts for Season 23 because the finale leaves everyone hanging.
The Final Goodbye for Owen Hunt and Teddy Altman
One of the biggest events of the Grey’s Anatomy Season 22 finale is the departure of two major stars. Kevin McKidd (Dr. Owen Hunt) and Kim Raver (Dr. Teddy Altman) are leaving the show. Their final episode will be the season finale.
The news of their exit broke in late March, and fans have been emotional ever since. McKidd has been on the show since Season 5, while Raver has been a key part of the hospital drama for years. Showrunner Meg Marinis confirmed their stories are ending, but she hinted that it might be a happy ending for the couple.
Luddington shared what it was like to watch her co-stars film their final scenes. She said it was very hard to say goodbye to people she considers family.
She revealed that during the table read for the finale, she was crying just listening to McKidd and Raver perform their final storyline.
“It’s a really beautiful storyline too. And I think that they did such an incredible job, even just at the table, playing that storyline. I was crying.”
Luddington added that she hopes Kevin McKidd continues to work on the show as a director, even if he is no longer acting on it. He has directed many episodes of the series over the years.
Jo Wilson Faces a Career Crossroads
While the exits of Owen and Teddy are a major focus, Luddington also teased what is coming for her own character, Jo. The Grey’s Anatomy Season 22 finale will put Jo in a difficult spot regarding her job.
Luddington explained that Jo is at a “crossroads.” Since giving birth to twins, Jo has been struggling with her mental health and the pressure of being a new mom. These struggles will come to a head in the finale.
“For Jo in particular, she ends up at a crossroads in her career. She has some big career decisions to make in the finale.”
The actress says things do not get easier for Jo before the season ends. She joked that she wishes the writers would give Jo a break, but instead, the drama is getting bigger. This career crisis will be a major part of the final episode.

A Station 19 Crossover Adds to the Drama
Fans of the Grey’s Anatomy universe will be happy to hear about a crossover. Luddington confirmed that a familiar face from Station 19 will appear in the Grey’s Anatomy Season 22 finale.
She mentioned that actress Danielle Savre is coming back to the set. Savre played Maya Bishop on the now-ended firefighter spin-off. Her return is expected to bring a lot of energy and drama to the already packed episode.
“It’s a really big finale. We have someone from Station 19 showing up. Danielle is back with us, which is really fun. It’s a lot of drama.”
This return connects the two shows again, giving fans a taste of the action they miss from Station 19. It also adds another layer to the finale, which Luddington says is full of surprises.
