Prime Video has decided to stop making the college superhero show Gen V after its second season. The show, which is a spin-off from the famous series The Boys, will not return for a third season. This news comes as the main show, The Boys, is airing its fifth and final season. The team behind the Vought Cinematic Universe confirmed that the doors are closing at Godolkin University for good.
Eric Kripke and Evan Goldberg, who are the main producers for the Vought Cinematic Universe, shared the official statement about the cancellation. The news spread quickly, and fans of the dark superhero world took to social media to share their feelings. Many people were hoping to see more stories from the young superheroes, but the streaming service decided to end the project.
โWhile we wish we could keep the party going another season at Godolkin, weโre committed to continuing the Gen V charactersโ stories in The Boys Season 5 and other VCU projects on the horizon. Youโll see them again.โ
Fans Voice Their Frustration Online After Cancellation News
After the announcement, many viewers went online to talk about their disappointment. While the first season of Gen V was a big hit with critics, the ratings for the second season were not strong enough to keep the show going. On Reddit, one upset fan summarized the general feeling with a simple and direct comment.
โMan that sucks. First season was definitely better but second was cool and wanted to see how it would end.โ
Other fans pointed out that the long wait between seasons and changes to the story hurt the show. The production faced a major tragedy when actor Chance Perdomo passed away in a motorcycle accident in March 2024 while traveling to film the second season. The writers chose not to recast his character, Andre Anderson, and had to heavily change the Season 2 scripts. Some fans believe this difficult situation affected the show’s momentum.
โSeason 1 was great and it was clear S2 was rewritten heavily bc of Chanceโs death.โ
The Ratings Numbers Show Why the Streaming Service Stopped the Show
Data from Nielsen reveals why Prime Video likely decided to stop the series. Gen V started its second season with 424 million minutes viewed, which put it at number 8 on the streaming charts. This was actually the show’s best week ever. However, after that first week, the show only appeared in the Top 10 one more time.
When you compare this to the main series, The Boys Season 4 started with 1.19 billion minutes viewed. The main show also reached more than 55 million viewers globally. The big gap in audience size made it hard for the streaming service to justify the high budget of the spin-off. The Gen V numbers were decent for a normal show, but they were not big enough for a major franchise.

The College Characters Will Return Even Though the Show Is Ending
Even though Godolkin University is closing, fans have not seen the last of characters like Marie Moreau, Cate Dunlap, or Sam Riordan. Eric Kripke confirmed that the stories from Gen V will mix into the final episodes of The Boys Season 5, which is currently streaming. Some of the younger supes have already joined the resistance against Homelander in the main show’s final chapter.
The Vought Cinematic Universe is also moving forward with another project. The new spin-off called Vought Rising will come out in 2027. This show will feature Jensen Ackles as Soldier Boy and Aya Cash as Stormfront in a story set in the 1950s. Another project, The Boys: Mexico, is also still in the early stages of development. The universe is not shrinking, but the focus is shifting away from the college setting.
โItโs a shame because I enjoyed the show โฆ but honestly with how closely the story is tied to The Boys (and with The Boys ending anyway) it makes sense to just end this too.โ
The Second Season Faced a Tough Path to the Screen
The production of Gen V Season 2 faced several delays and changes. After the passing of Chance Perdomo, the team paused filming to figure out how to continue. They decided not to recast his role, which changed the planned storylines for the second season. The season finally came out in September 2025, about two years after the first season.
The second season tried to set up the final events of The Boys. In the finale, the young supes were recruited to fight against Homelander’s strict control. The ending was designed to lead directly into the final season of the original show. Even though the spin-off worked well as a bridge between the main stories, it did not have enough of its own audience to survive past two seasons.
For now, fans will have to watch the final episodes of The Boys to see how the journey ends for the Godolkin graduates. The final episode of The Boys Season 5 will air on May 20, 2026.
