The latest episode of Will Trent season 4 gave fans the emotional goodbye they have been waiting for. The ABC drama aired Season 4 Episode 17 on April 28, 2026, and it took the title character on a terrifying ride through his own mind. After the shocking death of GBI Deputy Director Amanda Wagner, Will Trent (Ramรณn Rodrรญguez) has been falling apart. This episode, titled โ€˜Whereโ€™d You Come From, Little Angel?โ€™, forced him to confront his grief while fighting for his life.

During a routine visit to the morgue, Will got knocked out and stuffed inside a freezing body drawer. As he lost consciousness, he entered a dreamlike state where he reunited with a younger version of Amanda (Sydney Park). This fantasy reunion allowed Will to finally ask why she never adopted him and whether she truly cared about him. It was a raw, emotional journey that helped him find closure while the team worked to save him in the real world.

A Twisted Double Homicide Tests Willโ€™s Skills

When the episode begins, Will and Faith Mitchell (Iantha Richardson) arrive at the scene of a strange double murder. A young couple, Christa and Ethan, are found dead in their home. There are clear signs of a struggle, but the injuries on the two victims do not match. Christa died from strangulation, while Ethan appears to have been poisoned.

Will, who is usually able to read a crime scene perfectly, hits a wall. His mind keeps wandering back to Amandaโ€™s death. For the first time in his career, he walks out on an active investigation because he simply cannot figure out what happened. Faith notices her partner is struggling. The team discovers that Ethan was a scientific genius who invented a formula to prolong life. He was fired from his company, but his old boss suddenly wanted him back.

The Emotional Reunion Fans Deserved

The most talked-about moment of the night happened when Will went to the morgue alone. Instead of finding answers, he got attacked and locked inside a drawer. While trapped, Will traveled back in time in his head. He saw a 19-year-old version of himself getting arrested and met a young Amanda Wagner (played again by Sydney Park).

This dream sequence gave Will the chance to say everything he never said. He confronted Amanda for being cold and for leaving him in the foster system even though she found him as a baby. Young Amanda explained that she brought him into the GBI to make up for that mistake. She told Will she always loved him, even if she did not know how to show it. The scene ended with the hug that fans have wanted for four seasons. Amanda told him, โ€œI will always be with you,โ€ before disappearing.

The Team Figures Out the Truth

While Will was stuck inside the freezing drawer, Angie Polaski (Erika Christensen), Michael Ormewood (Jake McLaughlin), and Faith kept working the case. They discovered that Christa was not actually Ethanโ€™s loving girlfriend. She was a con artist hired by Ethanโ€™s old boss, Dr. Falcon, to steal his formula.

When Ethan caught Christa betraying him, he snapped. He strangled her and then poisoned himself with a neurotoxin found in worms. This toxin slowed his heart rate so much that he appeared dead. Ethan then hid in the morgue, waiting for the room to empty out. He attacked Will to stop him from solving the case.

Angie and Faith Rescue Will Just in Time

Back in his dream, Will realized the truth thanks to Amandaโ€™s help. He remembered that Ethan studied worms and knew how to slow his own heartbeat. Once Will solved the case in his head, he had to fight to wake up.

In the real world, Angie and the team figured out where Will was hiding. They opened the morgue drawer just as Will was losing his last bit of oxygen. Ormewood caught Ethan trying to escape. After the rescue, Will woke up in the hospital. He found a box of old items Amanda kept from when he was a baby, including his blue blanket and pictures. For the first time since her death, Will looked at peace.
