Outlander season 8 episode 9 delayed for a little longer. The popular time-traveling drama was expected to continue its weekly run this week, but fans will not see a new episode on May 1 or May 2. Starz has confirmed a “skip week” for the schedule, pushing the final two episodes of the entire series back by seven days.
While the break is frustrating for viewers eager to see how Jamie Fraser and Claire Fraser’s story ends, it is a short pause. The network is using this gap to build anticipation for the dramatic final chapter of the historical fantasy series, which first premiered back in 2014.

Why Fans Have to Wait for Episode 9
The delay is not due to production issues or technical problems. Instead, it is a strategic programming move by the network. Starz decided to insert a break into the weekly release calendar. While specific reasons were not given in the official announcement, networks often use these pauses during holiday weekends or to allow marketing for the finale to build up.

Officially, Outlander Season 8 Episode 9 will not air on May 2 as originally scheduled. The series will return for its penultimate episode on May 8 in the US. For global audiences, this means a seven-day shift in the schedule.
New Release Schedule for Remaining Episodes
Since the show is down to its final two episodes, the release dates are now set in stone. Here is the updated calendar for the end of the series:
- Episode 9 (“Pharos”): Will release on May 8 on Starz in the United States. UK viewers can catch it on May 9 on MGM+ via Prime Video.
- Episode 10 (Series Finale – “And the World Was All Around Us”): Will release on May 15 in the US and May 16 in the UK.
French audiences watching on Netflix will also follow this delayed schedule, with Episode 9 arriving on May 9. The final season consists of only 10 episodes, meaning the story is almost finished.

What to Expect in the Penultimate Episode
Titled “Pharos,” the upcoming episode was written by the author of the book series, Diana Gabaldon. The story picks up after the intense events of Episode 8, which left Lord John Grey in serious danger after walking into a trap set by Captain Richardson.
“Political threats come to a head when an old friend of Claire and Jamie’s goes missing.”
The official logline confirms that danger is closing in on the Fraser family. Viewers can expect Jamie to prepare for the battle of Kings Mountain, a historical event that Frank Randall’s book predicted would lead to Jamie’s death. Meanwhile, William and Jamie may have to put aside their differences to rescue Lord John before it is too late.

How to Spend the Break
If you are looking for something to watch during this break, the network has a suggestion. Starz is promoting the spin-off series “Outlander: Blood of My Blood” during this gap week. The prequel series follows the love stories of Jamie’s parents and Claire’s parents. It is available to stream now for subscribers looking to stay in the Outlander universe.
