AMC is bringing back Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Lauren Cohan for another round of walker-filled chaos in Manhattan. The network officially announced that The Walking Dead: Dead City Season 3 will premiere on Sunday, July 26, 2026, on both AMC and AMC+.
The new season will consist of eight episodes, airing weekly through the summer. Along with the release date, AMC dropped a first-look teaser that shows Maggie reluctantly asking for help from her former enemy, Negan. โWe need you,โ Maggie says in the clip, setting up another uneasy partnership between the two.
Fans had been waiting for this announcement for months. Earlier in 2026, AMC discussed their yearly lineup during an earnings call but did not mention Dead City at all. The network only talked about The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon Season 4, which made people worried that the Maggie and Negan spin-off might be delayed or even canceled. The July 26 premiere date puts those concerns to rest.
German Fans Get the Same Day Release on MagentaTV
For viewers in Germany, MagentaTV will show the new episodes at the same time they air in the United States. The German release date is set for July 27, 2026, due to the time difference.
The wait for Season 3 is much shorter this time. There were about two years between the first and second seasons, but Season 3 arrives just over one year after Season 2 ended. This quicker turnaround is good news for fans who want to see where Maggie and Neganโs story goes next.
What to Expect From Maggie and Negan in Season 3
The third season picks up after the big events of Season 2. At the end of the last season, Maggieโs son Hershel turned away from his mother and joined forces with the mysterious character known as The Dama. Meanwhile, the New Babylon Federation has invaded Manhattan, creating even more danger for everyone living there.
Maggie and Negan now find themselves on the same side of the fight for Manhattan. The new season will focus on their attempt to build a stable community in the post-apocalyptic city. But the old wound between them has not healed. Maggie still struggles with the memory of Negan killing her husband Glenn back on the original The Walking Dead show. The teaser trailer hints that this painful past will continue to cause problems.
โWe need people,โ Maggie says to Negan in the first teaser. The charismatic villain responds with his usual confidence: โNo one but me could keep this place safe.โ
New Showrunner Takes Over for Season 3
The Walking Dead: Dead City Season 3 brings a major change behind the camera. Seth Hoffman is joining as the new showrunner, replacing Eli Jornรฉ, who ran the first two seasons.
Hoffman is not new to the Walking Dead universe. He spent three years as a co-executive producer and writer on the original The Walking Dead series. He wrote some of the most memorable episodes from Seasons 4 through 6, including โToo Far Gone,โ โJss,โ and โNo Way Out.โ Having a veteran like Hoffman back in the mix gives fans hope that Season 3 will capture the same intense feeling as the original showโs best years.
โWeโre thankful to Eli Jornรฉ for two seasons of Dead City that took the story of these iconic characters in exciting new directions,โ said Dan McDermott, president of entertainment and AMC Studios for AMC Networks. โAs we continue to create new stories for a passionate TWD fanbaseโฆโ
