The life of Céline Dion is coming to television in a new way. A scripted drama series about the singer’s early years is now in development. The project has the official backing of the Dion family, making it the first authorized dramatized adaptation of her childhood and teenage years.
The working title for the show is Growing Up Dion. The series will focus on Dion’s life growing up in Charlemagne, Quebec, before she became a global music superstar.
Family Members Lead the Production
The Dion family is not just supporting this project from the sidelines. Jacques Dion, Céline’s brother, will serve as a producer.
The storyline comes from a very personal source. It is based on the book Dion, A Family Saga, written by Jimmy Dion, the singer’s nephew. Jimmy Dion is also involved as a consultant on the series.
Jacques Dion explained why this story matters to them personally.
“This series represents something deeply meaningful for our family, as it captures the spirit, struggles, and love that defined our upbringing. We are proud to finally share this story with the world in a way that feels true to who we are.”
What the Story Will Cover
The series will show a side of Céline Dion that many fans have never seen. It will recreate her childhood in a modest, music-filled home. She grew up as the youngest of 14 children.
The show will focus on her close bond with her mother, Thérèse Dion. It will also look at how growing up in a large, tight-knit family helped shape her into the star she became.
Zoë Green, known for her work on Sirens and Carnival Row, has been chosen as the showrunner for this project. The production company behind the series is Diamant Rouge Entertainment. The project is currently being presented to international buyers for distribution.
Who Will Play Young Céline Dion?
The casting process has not started publicly yet. No one has been announced to play the role of young Céline Dion or her family members.
This will be a challenge for the casting team. Several actresses have played Dion in the past. Valérie Lemercier played a version of her in the 2021 French film Aline. Christine Ghawi played her in the 2008 TV movie Céline, and Marla Mindelle portrayed her in the Broadway musical Titanique. However, this new project will require a younger actress to portray Dion as a child and teenager.
