What Happened in Reincarnated as a Sword Season 2 Episode 1

Episode 1, titled “What’s Floating in the Sky Is an Island,” kicks off a new arc that sends Fran and Teacher toward a mysterious floating island filled with undead enemies. The story picks up right where Season 1 ended. Fran and Teacher are traveling toward the port town of Dars when they spot a floating island in the sky.

The episode begins with a child who has lost its name. The child is imprisoned with other children. The two friends want to escape and become adventure heroes. The scene then shifts to Fran, Teacher, and Urushi traveling west from Alessa to Port Dars, where they stop for Teacher’s special vegetable curry. The party comes across an island. Since the Magic Levitation spell cannot take them up to the island, Teacher uses Telekinesis on Fran. On the island, there is a Level 24 Skeleton Knight, but Fran cannot use the midair spell. She decides to try the other magic sword, making Teacher jealous. The magic is over now for the three adventurers. Fran experiences a fall and has to use Midair Jump to land safely. Eventually, she ends up in a house where she meets Bernard the Skeleton. Bernard introduces his Master Jean Du Vix, a demonkin necromancer. Jean informs Fran that necromancers are beneficial to stop corpses from turning into undead monsters. He uses his Soul Eye to identify Teacher as a smart sword. Without asking for permission first, he proposes Fran’s involvement in the dungeon with a B-rated Undead Devourer consuming dead bodies. Fran agrees to his plan because she wants to get back at Skeleton Knight. Jean summons a Skeleton Wyvern, knowing it won’t live long. During the ride, Winged Tiger Skeletons kill Bone Birds and weaker enemies.

The premiere episode finished with the team crossing the barrier of the floating island. In Reincarnated as a Sword Season 2 Episode 2, Fran, Teacher, and Jean will make headway towards the dungeon. Jean wants to eliminate the B-rank Undead Devourer, so expect them to be working on it. The Skeleton Knight is still the guardian. Fran is looking for revenge after losing the first battle, so it is possible to see the fight again. Andy is no longer on the scene, but Jean can use his undead allies, including the undead Winged Tiger. Moreover, Reincarnated as a Sword Season 2 Episode 2 continues based on the diary. The first episode mentioned that the kids are related to Jean’s research in necromancy. New clues are available. The show also stays funny, featuring Curry and Fran as the funniest ones.

Fran and Teacher’s Journey So Far

Fran, a young catgirl who was sold into slavery after her parents were killed, met Teacher, a sentient sword with memories of a past life, and became his wielder. Together, they joined the Adventurers’ Guild in the fortress city of Alessa, where Fran built a reputation as a skilled adventurer. Aiming for Evolution, the ultimate form of power, Fran continues to grow stronger, while Teacher supports her every step of the way.

The second season sees the pair heading to the port town of Dars, but their journey takes a detour when they encounter a floating island ruled by undead creatures. Meeting the necromancer Jean Douby leads them into a dangerous dungeon filled with undead monsters. Jean uses his Soul Eye to identify Teacher as a smart sword and proposes Fran’s involvement in the dungeon with a B-rank Undead Devourer. Fran agrees, wanting revenge on the Skeleton Knight who knocked them down earlier.

The Anime News Network review of the Season 2 premiere noted that the episode remains mostly light despite a slave plotline bookending the episode, with Fran’s silly side taking over to make room for light comedy. The audience at the Anime NYC premiere panel burst into laughter whenever Fran or Jet would “inconveniently” run out of MP, and when Fran adorably fell asleep during Jean’s long-winded exposition dump.
