The Kannada action drama KD The Devil, starring Dhruva Sarja, Sanjay Dutt, Nora Fatehi, and Shilpa Shetty, is getting its digital premiere after a mixed run in theaters. The film will start streaming on ZEE5 from June 5, 2026.
The movie first arrived in cinemas on April 30, 2026. The OTT release comes just over a month after its theatrical debut. ZEE5 Kannada’s official social media account shared a new trailer cut to announce the streaming date. The post said, “Dust everywhere you step, blood everywhere you blow! The countdown to the Devil’s entry begins. ‘KD – The Devil’ on Kannada ZEE5 from June 5th.”
What is KD The Devil About
The film tells the story of Kali Dasa, or KD, played by Dhruva Sarja. He is a fun-loving young man who deeply cares for his family. KD looks up to a powerful gangster named Dhak Deva, played by Sanjay Dutt. This gangster is so feared that even police officers are scared of him.
Things change when KD falls in love with Macchu Lakshmi, a bold woman who matches his energy. Dangerous events pull KD and his family into Deva’s violent world. KD soon learns shocking truths about the man he once respected. The movie follows his journey from a carefree youngster to a man ready to fight his own idol to protect his loved ones.
Prem directed the film, and Venkat K. Narayana produced it under KVN Productions. The film runs for 2 hours and 5 minutes.
Star Cast and Multi-Language Release
The movie brings together stars from different film industries. The cast includes Kichcha Sudeepa, V Ravichandran, Ramesh Aravind, Reeshma Nanaiah, and Jisshu Sengupta along with the main leads.
KD The Devil released in five languages: Kannada, Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, and Malayalam. The multi-language release was meant to reach audiences across India.
Box Office Performance
The film had high expectations before release. But it received a lukewarm response at the box office. According to trade website Sacnilk, the movie collected around ₹24.19 crore worldwide.
The domestic net collection was near ₹20 crore. The film opened to mixed reviews and could not keep up its momentum in theaters despite the star-studded cast.
The Song Controversy Explained
KD The Devil made headlines for a controversial song before its theatrical release. The song Sarse Ninna Seraga Sarse (Hindi version titled Sarke Chunari Teri Sarke) faced heavy criticism for its suggestive lyrics.
The Kannada version did not cause much outrage. But the Hindi lyrics were called vulgar by many viewers. The National Commission for Women (NCW) took action after receiving complaints.
Nora Fatehi distanced herself from the song after the backlash. She said she did not know the song’s meaning when she shot for it. Lyricist Raqueeb Alam said he only translated what director Prem had written.
The Hindi version of the song was removed from YouTube and other platforms. Legal petitions were filed with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) and State Women’s Commissions for Haryana and Karnataka also stepped in.
Director Prem later apologized. He said, “There was no intention of obscenity while writing the song. It has been interpreted differently. If it hurt anyone, I apologise. I will rewrite and re-upload the song.”
A fatwa was also issued against Nora Fatehi in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh. The Chief Mufti found the visuals in the song objectionable under Islamic teachings.
