FX is expanding its collection of crime dramas. The network has started developing a television series based on the popular comic book That Texas Blood. The show comes from Jim Mickle and E.L. Katz, the team behind the Sundance TV series Hap and Leonard. This marks their first project together since that show ended in 2018.
The announcement came on May 29, 2026. 20th Television will produce the series. Jim Mickle will also direct the show in addition to writing and executive producing with Katz .

The story takes place in Ambrose County, a fictional part of West Texas. Sheriff Joe Bob Coates is the main character. He is an aging lawman who starts questioning his place in the world. Who Is Making the Show? The Full Production Team
The production team for That Texas Blood includes several well-known names from television and comics. Michael Waldron and Adam Fasullo will executive produce through their company Anomaly Pictures. Waldron is known for writing Loki and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness .
Adam Fishbach, Jeremy Platt, and Linda Moran are also attached as executive producers. Comic writer Chris Condon will serve as an executive producer on the show. Artist Jacob Phillips will work as a co-executive producer. This means the creators of the original comic have direct involvement in bringing their work to television .
The show comes from 20th Television, which is part of Disney Television Studios. FX has a long history with Western and crime dramas.
