A popular adult dojin manga is getting a television anime. The Shy Snow Woman and the Cursed Ring (full Japanese title: Hitozukiai ga Nigate na Mibōjin no Yuki Onna-san to Noroi no Yubiwa) will arrive on TV screens in Japan. The show comes from the artist Puuzaki Puuna, also known as Puu no Puupuupuu or Zeroshiki Kōichi. This marks the first time an adult dojin manga has been directly turned into a TV anime without first releasing a separate commercial manga version.
The announcement dropped on May 29, 2026. The news came through the official X (formerly Twitter) account for the anime, as well as the artist’s personal page. Puuzaki Puuna even drew a special illustration to celebrate the occasion.
A Historic Moment for Dojin Manga
The Shy Snow Woman and the Cursed Ring started as a self-published dojin (indie comic) in 2021. It has two full-color volumes so far. The English version is available through Irodori Comics.
Most adult dojin that get animated usually go straight to DVD or Blu-ray as OVAs (Original Video Animations). Or they first get picked up by a commercial publisher and turned into a regular manga series. This show is skipping all of those steps. Puuzaki Puuna confirmed that this is the first time an adult dojin is jumping directly to TV.
“I’m sure many of you are looking at this and going ‘Wait, a TV anime? Not an OVA??’ but I’m the one who’s most surprised here,” Puuzaki Puuna said in a statement. “I think the fact that this title has made it this far is all thanks to your support.”
The creator also joked that the news shocked even them. They never expected their indie work to make it to network television.
What Is ‘The Shy Snow Woman and the Cursed Ring’ About?
The story takes place in a world where humans and supernatural creatures (yokai) live together. The main character, Takahashi Satoru, inherits an apartment building from his late father. But this is no ordinary building. It is a rental complex made specifically for yokai.
Yukino Fuyumi (the Snow Woman) lives in apartment 503. She is a widow. Her husband passed away two years ago. She is shy, struggling to pay rent, and deeply lonely. Satoru wants to help her. But while cleaning out his father’s things, he finds a strange ring. The ring can control the minds of any yokai who sees it.
Kaede Kiryuin, a demon shrine maiden and Satoru’s childhood friend, also appears in the story. She holds a family heirloom called the “Hammer of Curse Breaking.” The story follows Satoru as he struggles between using the ring to get close to Yukino or helping her the right way.
The Anime Will Add New Original Stories
Fans of the manga should know that the TV show will not be a perfect copy of the books. Puuzaki Puuna revealed that the anime will include plot developments that are different from the original work. There will also be completely original stories added to the TV version.
“I was involved in supervising even the finest details for this anime adaptation,” Puuzaki Puuna said. “Thanks to the director, staff, and voice actors who worked so diligently with me, it has truly become a wonderful production. The TV series includes plot developments that differ from the original work as well as original stories, so I believe fans will enjoy it even more.”
The creator is personally excited to finally see the characters moving and speaking on screen.
Who Is Making the Anime?
The animation studio behind this project is WWWave Corporation. This studio previously made shows like When I Woke Up, I Became a Girl! and My Tiny Senpai. The company has experience with shorter-form anime and romantic comedies. The Shy Snow Woman and the Cursed Ring will likely follow a similar production style.
The official announcement did not list the specific director, voice cast, or exact release date yet. More information will come through the anime’s official X account.
The show will reportedly air in two formats. There will be a standard TV broadcast version and a “WEB limited edition” version. The WEB version may contain more uncensored content, which is common for adult anime adaptations.
Manga Volume 3 Arrives in October
Fans of the original manga have something to look forward to while waiting for the anime. The third volume of The Shy Snow Woman and the Cursed Ring is scheduled for release in early October 2026. The author described this volume as being about “love” and said the contents are very intense.
Puuzaki Puuna admitted that they packed so much content into this volume that it ended up exceeding 120 pages. It will include everything the creator wanted to draw for this part of the story.

A Milestone for Indie Creators
The anime industry has a long history of adapting popular works. But those works usually come from big publishing houses like Shueisha or Kodansha. An indie dojin skipping the line and going straight to TV is almost unheard of.
If The Shy Snow Woman and the Cursed Ring succeeds, it could open doors for other self-published artists. It proves that an audience exists for smaller, indie stories. For now, Puuzaki Puuna is just happy to see their work reach a wider audience.
“I’m personally very excited to finally see Yukino and Kaede move and speak,” the creator said.
