The Series Has Officially Ended

The six-episode third season, titled The Terror: Devil in Silver, finished its run on June 1, 2026. The finale, named “Starry Night,” brought the story of Pepper (played by Dan Stevens) to a close with what creator David Kajganich described as a “hopeful message” rather than a traditional big fight or hopeless ending.

While some fans hoped the series would continue due to its strong online viewership, AMC+ has not confirmed the series for a Season 4 renewal. According to reports from Collider, the Ridley Scott series will not return for Season 4 as the latest installment was its final.

The Anthology’s Journey

The Terror premiered in 2018 as a horror anthology where each season tells a standalone story:

  • Season 1 (The Terror) โ€“ 2018: Based on Dan Simmons’ novel, it followed a British naval expedition trapped in the Arctic ice while searching for the North-West Passage.
  • Season 2 (The Terror: Infamy) โ€“ 2019: Set during World War II, it wove Japanese folklore into the story of a Japanese American community in internment camps.
  • Season 3 (The Terror: Devil in Silver) โ€“ 2026: The series returned after a seven-year gap, shifting to a contemporary setting in modern-day Queens, New York.

What Season 3 Was About

Season 3 adapted Victor LaValle’s 2012 novel The Devil in Silver and was written by LaValle and Chris Cantwell. The season followed Pepper, a working-class moving man wrongfully committed to the decrepit New Hyde Psychiatric Hospital.

There, he had to contend with patients working against him, doctors harboring grim secrets, and perhaps even the Devil himself. The cast included Judith Light, CCH Pounder, Aasif Mandvi, Stephen Root, and John Benjamin Hickey.

The Conclusion Was Intentional

The series finale was designed to feel complete. Creator David Kajganich explained that he wanted a hopeful message rather than a cliffhanger. The conclusion wasn’t about defeating evil but about living with itโ€”Pepper’s sacrifice to save other patients was intended as a heroic and satisfying ending to his journey and the anthology series as a whole.

All three seasons of The Terror are currently available to stream online. For fans looking for similar content, shows like The North Water, Chernobyl, Taboo, and Fortitude have been suggested as alternatives.
