Episode 12 Recap: A Symbol of Unity Closes the Season
The season finale opened with a crisis. Bell chastised a Crystal Goo for mishandling the Sun Castle’s records, with Haruka discovering that Bell and the Goo are both Artificial Life forms known as Mercurials. Bell explained the Sun Castle is powered by Sunstones and warned that if they lose all of them, the Castle would fall from the sky. Lucy then produced a Sunstone she had previously found in the village, offering a solution to the fuel crisis.
Kuzden’s Alliance with the Great Tree Village
Kuzden, the leader of the castle’s inhabitants, approached Hiraku with a proposal. He offered the Sun Castle to the village in exchange for his people becoming citizens under the Great Tree Village’s laws. While Hiraku agreed, he expressed private concerns about potential future claims to the castle. Others assured him that since the castle had been abandoned for years, few would come forward. Kuzden’s people were accepted as Group 4 citizens under his leadership, with positive reception from the village.
Renovation, Discovery, and a Failed Balloon Test
The episode then entered a busy rebuilding phase. Hiraku and his team worked quickly to build homes for the Sun Castle’s inhabitants. Bell was amazed at the speed of Hiraku’s work, but Sena corrected her, stating that his capabilities were far beyond what anyone else could achieve.
More discoveries followed. Potatoes from the dungeon proved tasteless on their own, but with curry seasoning, they became edible. Donovan’s attempt to brew alcohol with the potatoes failed, but the Maids’ efforts to remove the potatoes’ astringency created konnyaku, which Hiraku immediately recognized. A hot air balloon was tested as a potential way to reach the castle’s upper sections, but poor directional control made it unsuitable.

The episode concluded on a celebratory note. After the ice statues melted and Zabuton woke from hibernation, the entire community gathered for a large feast. Later, Lucy checked in with Hiraku, and he admitted being Mayor had been more challenging than expected. However, he affirmed his commitment to continuing his hard work for the village’s well-being.
