Kareena Kapoor Khan brought Bollywood and Formula 1 together during a visit to the 2026 Singapore Grand Prix, where she met McLaren driver and reigning world champion Lando Norris. The two sat down for a chat over Indian masala chai, and Kareena made a playful reference to her husband Saif Ali Khan‘s on-screen racing career in the 2007 film Ta Ra Rum Pum. A video of the interaction, shared by Google India on Instagram, quickly spread across social media.
The meeting took place on the sidelines of the race weekend at the Marina Bay Street Circuit. McLaren officially welcomed Kareena into their Papaya Family, the team’s global fan community, with an Instagram post. The collaboration was part of a promotional campaign with Google Android and the McLaren F1 team.
Kareena Kapoor Joins McLaren’s Papaya Family
McLaren F1 confirmed Kareena’s appearance on October 9 by sharing a photo of the actor on their official Instagram handle. The post read, “The newest member of the Papaya Family, Kareena Kapoor Khan.” Kareena also shared pictures from the paddock and the circuit on her Instagram Stories.
She was seen wearing a white tank top paired with off-white trousers and a multi-coloured scarf, a casual yet stylish look for the race weekend. Fans had been speculating about her F1 connection for weeks before the announcement.
The Ta Ra Rum Pum Joke That Won the Internet
During the conversation, Kareena brought up her husband’s fictional racing past. She told Norris, “My husband won the World Championship.” When Norris looked surprised, she added, “19 years ago.” Norris laughed and replied, “So, we’re the same, basically.”
Kareena was referring to Saif Ali Khan’s role as Rajveer Singh in Ta Ra Rum Pum, a 2007 Bollywood film where he played a professional racing driver who wins a championship. The film, produced by Yash Raj Films, featured Saif as a NASCAR-style racer navigating personal and professional setbacks.
Norris, who won the 2025 Formula 1 World Drivers’ Championship with McLaren, took the comparison in good humour. The British driver finished third at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix in December 2025 to claim his first title, becoming Britain’s 11th F1 world champion.
Masala Chai, Indian Gestures, and a Rapid-Fire Round
The chat went beyond racing jokes. Kareena introduced Norris to Indian masala chai and taught him some common Indian hand gestures. She asked him to guess familiar gestures before putting him through a rapid-fire question-and-answer round about his career and McLaren’s history in Formula One.
Norris admitted he wasn’t much of a tea drinker. Kareena playfully responded that if he doesn’t drink tea, he could still “spill some tea.” The segment was part of a special video and partnership titled “Tea Break”, organised by Google Android and the McLaren F1 team.
Kareena also got Norris to sign a McLaren jersey for her younger son, Jehangir. Sharing the moment on Instagram, she wrote, “For Jeh baba,” along with a red heart. She also posted a collage featuring pictures with Norris and a poster of Ta Ra Rum Pum, captioning it, “My love for Formula One drivers is real.”
Fans React to the Bollywood and F1 Crossover
Social media users had a lot to say about the unexpected pairing. One fan wrote, “Never knew I needed this crossover until now.” Another commented, “THE WAY MY F1 BRAIN AND MY BOLLYWOOD BRAIN JUST COLLIDED AT 300 KM/H.” A user jokingly referred to Saif as Kareena’s “favourite driver,” while another noted, “Lando trying to do the Bebo pout!!!”
The Bollywood Hungama report noted that fans had been asking for pictures of Kareena with F1 drivers even before the video was released, with Norris emerging as a particular favourite. The India.com report described the internet’s response as calling it a “peak collaboration.”
