Jennifer Lopez has a new message for anyone going through a breakup: throw a party. The singer and actress shared her honest thoughts on relationships ending during a recent interview, and her viewpoint is getting people talking.
The 56-year-old star appeared on the June 30 episode of the online talk show Subway Takes with host Kareem Rahma. During the conversation, Lopez explained why she believes people should change how they think about breakups.
“Breakups are not a failure. I honestly feel like it’s a launchpad into your next best self,” Lopez said. She then shared her main point: “We should have a party when we break up.”
Lopez explained that ending a relationship is often a brave choice. She said people should congratulate others who end things because it means they made a decision. She also said it was probably the best thing for everyone involved.
The performer, who has been married four times, also shared a surprising view about who comes out on top after a split. She believes the person who gets their heart broken is actually the real winner.
“If you go around your life and you’re breaking hearts, let’s say, you’re a loser,” Lopez explained. She admitted she has been on both sides of breakups. But she stressed that people who always do the breaking up never learn anything about themselves.
Lopez said her own biggest moments of growth have come from heartbreak. This includes not just romantic relationships but also work-related disappointments.
“I just feel like the biggest growth spurts I’ve had emotionally, mentally, psychologically have always come from a heartbreak,” she shared.

Since the divorce was finalized, Lopez has spoken openly about her new chapter. She said she is in her “happy era” and feels free for the first time in a long time.
