FX has set a fall premiere date for the thirteenth season of American Horror Story. The new season will bring back many familiar faces from the show’s history, including several stars from the popular Coven season. Production is currently happening in New York City, and set photos have already given fans a look at what is coming.
The network confirmed that American Horror Story Season 13 will arrive on September 24, 2026. The show will air on FX at 9 p.m. ET/PT and will be available to stream on Hulu the next day. International viewers can watch on Disney+.
Release Date and Where to Watch
The new season was originally thought to arrive around Halloween, but FX moved the premiere up to late September. This gives fans an earlier start to the fall horror season.
For those in the United States, the show airs live on FX. Streaming options include Hulu for next-day viewing. International audiences will find the season on Disney+, making it accessible to a wide global audience.
The premiere date comes with a special promotion at San Diego Comic-Con. FX is running a “13 Flavors” activation with ice cream trucks offering treats inspired by past seasons. Attendees can also experience a mysterious “13th scoop” at a secret location to get a taste of what is coming.
The Coven Returns
Set photos from New York City confirm that the new season continues the story from Season 3, Coven. Sarah Paulson reprises her role as Cordelia Goode, the Supreme of the Coven. FX shared a first look photo of Paulson with the caption: “The Return of @mssarahcatharinepaulson as Cordelia Goode. The Supreme Rises. And yes we have rebuilt the entire Robichaux Academy”.
Emma Roberts, Frances Conroy, and Gabourey Sidibe were also spotted on set in classic witch attire. The images show the cast filming in Manhattan’s Soho neighborhood.
Jessica Lange makes her return to the franchise for the first time since 2018’s Apocalypse. Her return was teased earlier this year with an Instagram photo captioned: “American Horror Story, Season 13. Day One. The return of Jessica Lange!”. Fans have been asking for Lange’s return for years, and she is now officially back.
Angela Bassett also returns and confirmed she is playing her Coven character Marie Laveau. She told Entertainment Tonight: “I am playing the same character”. Bassett said she “loved” the role and wished it had “come sooner”.
Other returning cast members include Evan Peters, Kathy Bates, Billie Lourd, and Leslie Grossman. John Carroll Lynch, Mena Suvari, and Matt Fraser are also coming back as characters from other AHS installments.
New Faces Joining the Cast
The season introduces several newcomers to the American Horror Story universe. Cult filmmaker John Waters joins the cast, marking his first appearance in the franchise. Paul Anthony Kelly, who starred in Murphy’s Love Story, makes his debut. Joey Pollari and Alex Consani are also part of the new season. Avantika Vandanapu and Cara Delevingne were spotted on set as well.
Ariana Grande Drops Out
Ariana Grande will not appear in Season 13 despite being announced as part of the cast in October 2025. The singer dropped out due to scheduling conflicts with her Eternal Sunshine Tour.
Production for the season began in April 2026, and Grande’s tour launched on June 6. A change in the show’s production schedule created a direct conflict with her tour dates. Grande did not film any scenes for the new season.
The singer had previously teased her involvement, saying she would likely have a small role. She told Variety: “I know a little tiny bit. What I know I cannot say. I am coming into the world in a way that I don’t know much about yet”. She added: “I’ll probably have a very tiny thing to do in it, but I’ll be grateful to be a part of it because I love everyone in it”.
Grande’s tour schedule has seen some changes recently. She rescheduled a July 12 Brooklyn show to July 14 and shifted two Boston concerts from July 22 and 24 to July 23 and 26. The tour continues with stops in New York, Canada, Chicago, and London before wrapping up.
Despite her exit, the season moves forward with a strong returning ensemble. FX and 20th Television declined to comment on Grande’s departure.
