The new cooking anime Iron Wok Jan! continues its weekly run with Episode 4 arriving soon. The show, based on the popular 1990s manga by Shinji Saijyo, has been drawing viewers with its over-the-top cooking battles and strong rivalries. Episode 4 is scheduled for July 26, 2026. What Happened Before
Episode 1: “Flames and Meetings”
The first episode sets up the main conflict of the series. It opens at Gobancho, a high-end Chinese restaurant in Tokyo’s Ginza district. Kiriko Gobancho, the 16-year-old granddaughter of the restaurant owner, is shown preparing the restaurant’s famous golden fried rice. Late one night, after closing, a stranger walks in and orders fried rice. He throws it in the trash, saying he can do better, and then goes into the kitchen to make his own. This stranger is Jan Akiyama, the grandson of a rival chef. He demands to become a trainee at Gobancho. The episode ends with a special segment showing pages from the original 1995 manga.
Episode 2: “They’re Like Gunpowder”
Episode 2 aired on July 12, 2026. In this episode, Jan and Kiriko are forced to work together. An arrogant food critic has been insulting the restaurant’s dishes. The two rival chefs must join forces to prove him wrong. The episode highlights Jan’s aggressive cooking style and the growing tension between the two characters.
Episode 3: “The Loser’s War Cry”
Episode 3, titled “Le cri de guerre du perdant” (The Loser’s War Cry), aired on July 19, 2026. In this episode, Jan must prepare a dish for fifty guests. However, his arrogance causes him to make a mistake. This episode is now available on Crunchyroll.

Iron Wok Jan! follows Jan Akiyama, a teenage chef who believes cooking is a battle. He arrives at the Gobancho restaurant in Tokyo’s Ginza district to fulfill his grandfather’s dying wish—to defeat his old rival, Mutsuju Gobancho. At the restaurant, Jan meets Kiriko Gobancho, the granddaughter of his grandfather’s enemy. Kiriko believes cooking should be about making customers happy, while Jan thinks winning is everything. The story is set in 1995, keeping the original manga’s time period. The anime brings back the retro feel of the 90s with its art style and character designs.
