Netflix’s hit Korean zombie series All of Us Are Dead is finally coming back for a second season. But fans will have to wait a bit longer than expected. The show, which premiered in January 2022, finished filming its second season in February 2026. However, Netflix did not include the series in its 2026 K-drama lineup. Industry sources now point to an early 2027 release.
The first season became a global sensation within days of its debut. It amassed over 125 million viewing hours in its first week and ranked in the Top 10 in 91 countries. Netflix renewed the show in June 2022 during Geeked Week. But then came years of silence and production delays.
Filming Finally Wrapped in February 2026
Production for Season 2 officially wrapped on February 19, 2026. The shoot lasted approximately seven months, starting in late July 2025. The cast shared their wrap celebrations on social media. Cho Yi-hyun posted a photo with new cast member Roh Jae-won on February 19. Park Ji-hu shared a picture of her farewell cake on February 18.
The filming faced multiple delays before cameras finally rolled. Production was originally planned for 2024. Netflix pushed the schedule to 2025, citing the need for better production quality and scale. The Gangwon Provincial Government Building served as a major filming location, with additional shoots taking place on January 17 and 18, 2026.
Why the Long Wait for Season 2
The gap between seasons will stretch to five years by the time Season 2 arrives. This is unusual for the South Korean television industry, which typically produces seasons much faster. For comparison, Squid Game returned within three years. Series like Gyeongseong Creature and Alchemy of Souls released multiple seasons within a year.
The show requires heavy post-production work. Zombie series demand extensive visual effects, sound design, and action sequences. Industry insiders say this work typically takes six to nine months at minimum. The series was notably absent from Netflix’s 33-title K-content list for 2026, announced in January. That absence confirmed that a 2026 premiere was not happening.
Returning Cast Members
The core cast from Season 1 is returning. Park Ji-hu reprises her role as Nam On-jo, who is now a university student in Seoul. Yoon Chan-young returns as Lee Cheong-san. Cho Yi-hyun is back as Choi Nam-ra. Lomon returns as Lee Su-hyeok.
Roh Yoon-seo, who played a key role in Season 1, will not return due to prior commitments.
New Faces Joining the Series
Several new cast members are joining the survival story. Lee Min-jae from Weak Hero: Class 2 is part of the new lineup. Kim Si-eun and Roh Jae-won, both from Squid Game Seasons 2 and 3, are also joining. Yoon Ga-i rounds out the new additions.
The new characters will bring fresh dynamics as the outbreak spreads to a new location.
What the Story Will Cover
Season 2 picks up years after the first outbreak. Nam On-jo is now attending university in Seoul. She believes life is returning to normal. But a new infection emerges. This time, the virus is reportedly deadlier.
The story moves beyond the high school setting to the streets of Seoul. The season will explore deeper lore, including the mysterious “halfbies” — hybrids of humans and zombies introduced in Season 1. Director Lee JQ has indicated that PTSD and mental health are central themes.
Season 2 will feature entirely original material. The source webtoon, Now at Our School by Joo Dong-geun, ended after 130 chapters. The show’s creators are now building new storylines beyond the webtoon.
Creative Team Returns
The full creative team is back for Season 2. Directors Lee JQ and Kim Nam-su are returning. Writer Chun Sung-il, known for King the Land, is back to write the screenplay.
The show is expected to feature more advanced special effects, a larger outbreak, and a deeper look at human survival instincts.
