“BLACK TORCH” is based on the manga by Tsuyoshi Takaki, which ran in Shueisha’s Jump SQ. and Shonen Jump+ from 2017 to 2018. The manga was collected in five volumes. The anime adaptation is produced by the global studio 100studio. Kei Mabiki serves as the director. Gigaemon Ichikawa handles series composition and scripts. Go Suzuki is the character designer. Yutaka Yamada composes the music.
The story follows Jiro Azuma, a high school student raised by his grandfather, who is a descendant of ninjas. Jiro has the ability to talk to animals. One day, he finds a wounded black cat in the forest named Rago. Rago is not an ordinary cat. He is a legendary mononoke once called the “Black Ominous Star”. Jiro and Rago join forces with the Bureau of Espionage, a secret government organization that monitors and eliminates mononoke. Together, they fight against mononoke that seek to exploit Rago’s power.
The opening theme is “FREEZE ME UP” by SiM. The ending theme is “Groooovy” by I Don’t Like Mondays.
